I have this Medeco brand lock that I need to remove from a door (note: legally and without destroying it). It's the strangest lock I've ever seen, as there are NO visible screws. The in-house portion is one of those keyhole things where you have to leave the key sitting in the lock all the time to open the door. It's surrounded by a smooth plate, and there doesn't seem to be any way to remove the assembly even from inside.

Has anyone had any experience with these weird locks who can offer me some insight?

Thanks,
-Warik

Drop the destroy part and grab some C-4. Problem solved.

Otherwise, a nice little cutting tool.

I used to work at a store that used them, every time we got locked out or something medeco would have to come and "drill it out" and put in a new one, so I dont think that there is some special tool or something, they are made to be pick-proof, so good luck dizog

If they can put them in then there has to be a way to take them out... otherwise there'd be no way to secure them in place or anything. My gut tells me that if I can remove the little smooth plating on the inside, then the screws would be right under that.

Damnit... why on Earth would someone make the lock inaccessible from the INSIDE? Shit, if you're inside already then I don't think making the lock pick-proof is the chief concern.

Ohh, already inside, not from the outside, duh.

found this on a site

Can I install a Medeco lock myself?
It is possible, but Medeco requires great precision in installation; so we do not recommend you do this yourself. Your Locksmith Professional does this everyday and has developed the skills for speedy and precise installation.

If it is hard to install must be hard to uninstall, but "possible" is the key word, Good luck

Some locks are made to be secure from the inside, espically the ones made for commercial installations. That way you cant have your $5.00/hr floor sweeper mess with the lock and come back later with his 10 closest friends and clean the place out.

Get yourself a nice heavy duty drill bit and happy drilling :)

I guess I'll have to drill it then. Where does one typically have to drill to get the whole assembly out of the large hole? Do I have to drill directly into the key hole or drill past the smooth plate somehow to find a screw to take out?
