meat cooking suggestions

i got 3lbs of top round steak. there's 2 in there.

straight up cook it? what other suggestions for it? i'm thinking i should take some and make shishkabobs this weekend. gonna toss most of it in the freezer soon.

i normally don't buy red meats (except ground beef) at the grocery store unless the price is good. i prefer to go down to a local butcher because the meat is 10x better and the price is the some.

grocery store has a buy one get one free deal on london broil again this week. at one point i had 5 in my freezer. got 3 in the freezer now and guess i'll get more cause it's cheap.

the top round was almost half price. paid $8 for 3lbs, normally $15. not bad.

so what to do with the meat?

You never did try my French dressing marinade for London broil did you?

Beef is always good with grilled/fried combo of mushrooms, onion & peppers.

yes i did. it wasn't bad, but i don't think i let it sit long enough.

i'm thinking some peppers, onions, pineapple, maybe some bananna chunks, not sure what else, but i need a good combo to make some shishkabobs.

marinate meat beforehand?

suggestions on marinades?

How about leftover wine (if you have any), variety of dried spices, soy sauce, beer, vinegar...

As for shish kebabs: Pepper chunks, Pineapple, whole 'shrooms, onions, tomatoes......

whoa, that sounds like a good marinade. i was thinking about cherry tomatoes but was up in the air on that decision. no mushrooms though, at least not for me. i hate mushrooms.

wines i have 1 bottle from Bucks County Vineyards. Niagra is it's name. the other is New Jersey First Blush. both wines are almost a pink color.

beer....all i have is some Sam Adams Cream Stout, some home brewed Irish Stout, and a Yuengling lager.

i keep forgetting to pick up more spices when i'm at the store. i've got a lil, but nowhere near what i should have.

what do you suggest to baste with while grilling? i think i'm going to have to cut a pound of this meat into cubes real soon and start the marinating for tomorrow.

nvr - i've had bananas grilled before on shishkablobs and they were pretty good. i think they had to be green to do it right though. i don't think i'll attempt them this time around.

Bananas are very sweet, you may want to try plantains to grill as they are like a banana, but firmer and more savory.....

sorry I went out.......hope your meat turned out well

Anyway, any marinade you can use to baste with -- cook it down in a pan on the stove till it reduces by about 1/2. Then use that to baste with....

gee, as if that wasn't vague enough ;)

gotta get stuff cut up a little later on and soaking. lil beer, wine, soy, red wine vinegar or regular? spices of course. right?

As far as the alcohol, pick one -- beer or wine.....

Add soy for a deep salty flavor -- balsamic will do the same

Add whatever spices you think will taste good. You have beef so salt, pepper, garlic, red pepper flakes, etc will be great!

peppercorn steak is a wicked alternative too :)

yes, it would be, but the kids wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

while that's good for my steak consumption, that means i have to cook them something else. more time in the kitchen sucks.
