MAXIUMUM MASS GAINS...10 days rest...

I posted last week about my routine. It was basicly this. Day 1, huge carb up, then do a total body workout with 2-3 sets to failure. This workout took 1 hour and wiped me out. Then I rest 4 days and start all over. The Rest days were CKD, nothing but spinach and beef all day. I was thinking of splitting my body up and doing this.

First day- squats (4-5 work sets), bent row (2 work sets), seated row (2 work sets), Standing press (3 work sets), standing calf raise (2 work sets), close bench press ( 2 work sets)

Rest 4 days

Second day- Deads(4 work sets), bench press (4 work sets), inc db press (2 work sets), bb shrugs (2 work sets), standing calf raise ( 2 work sets), bb OR preacher curls ( 2 work sets).

Let me know if anyone has tried anything similar to this. This would be 10 days rest for most of the muscles. The routine I am on now, where I do the entire body every 5 days has me increasing weight every 5 day but I feel it might be better to slam the muscles harder with longer rest.

This is so f-ing ridiculous, that it almost makes sense..............it's copied from the Mentzer principles...........I'd try it, but staying out of the gym for 4 days would put me into cardiac arrest.................let me know how it goes.........

hahahahah man I thought you were really gonna slam him for that when I saw that you had replied

let us know how it goes man!

Quads won't really grow on that routine. Hams will get very strong, throwing the strength ratio around the knee all out of whack. Be careful bro.

even though he's alternating squats/deads?

The major movement of the squat is hip extension, so they are more of a quad/glute exercise.

I'd add in some hack squats, and possibly even leg extensions...

Honestly, I hate it. Never a fan of Mentzer. Your body really doesn't need 4 days of rest if you're eating and sleeping properly. Hell, some people on this board train each bodypart 2-3 times a week and they are seeing the gains. I'd only see the sense in it if you were tight on time and only had 2 days to get into the gym .....

Mentzer was just wrong... you can do more frequency bor. In fact, your gains will be better.

I do something similar due to my fucked up lifestyle, I workout mon-thur and take, fri, sat, sun off, sometimes starting up again sun if I feel like it

I feel it works good but I go fucking nuts sitting for 3 days so I may take a day off during the week as come fri Im toast

Thanks for the replys. I have done several training methods in the past 2 years. I used to do a different part every day from Monday-Friday. I got a great pump. But this training less with less sets is like supehuman. EVERYTIME I head off to workout I KNOW I am going to make strength gains, and I do. For almost 2 months now. Remember...Mass to me = get stronger, put on some weight. That is it. I do not care what program you do. If you are getting stronger and eating enough, you will gain mass. I am still timid about trying 10 days rest between bodyparts. I might stick with my current routine of total body, 2-3 sets every 5th day, with a huge carb up on the lift day and CKD on the 4 days off. Does that sound like overtraining? I am lifting more every 5th day so I feel it is working. I just feel like I can increase the load and rest double the time. Any comments?

Hey man, if it works for you, then go for it.

But I don't know if I buy the whole strength = size issue. There are plenty of guys at my gym who are bigger than I am, but lift a lot less than I do. On the flip side, there are people who are smaller than I am, but can lift a lot more than I can. So I don't know if you can make a concrete correlation between the two

Well, strength doesn't always equal size in terms of what you see, though a lot of the time if you're eating the right amount of calories, and making gains in strength, then you would be gaining size. In theory. My theory. ;)

I guess I can agree with if you're eating the right amount of calories (which would have to be well over maintenance), along with proper training, then you'll make gains in size

Id go with alot more frequency and volume coupled with high intensity. This has worked best for me. That routine would likely do little to nothing for me. Some people will grow on less volume and even less intensity. When Im in the gym though, I try to take my muscles to complete exhaustion each workout. You can always try it and see how you like the routine though.
