Well if you were following CKD correctly and were in ketosis you shouldn't have lost any muscle from that, let alone losing a lot like you're describing. Ketones are muscle sparing. Probably the HIIT on an empty stomach. I would think it'd be smarter to do HIIT after ingesting some food. I'd choose HIIT because the duration is shorter, it's more intense (which I like) and will help keep the heart in good condition. Sprints kick ass.
