i put up 275 5 times on incline bench yesterday. i havent done a flat bench max in awhile, but 275 5 times on incline is the most ive done on it(incline). any gueses on what my flat bench could or might be based off these numbers. my max wont be till aug. thats why i ask.

I'm hoping you mean plain incline not smith machine correct? Its difficult to gauge completely, b/c some people have a tendancy to bench with their shoulders instead of pec/triceps. Are you a flared elbow bencher, or a tucked elbow bencher?

Maxes are very difficult to judge, everyone has a different workout. I'd assume you could easily max 50lbs over your 5rm, this may or may not be true for you. Have you ever maxed before?

Best advice is just try it and find out. Start with some light tripples then move on to heavy singles up to 275. If it feels light for a single, start adding 20lbs or so at a time until you can't move it. Thats how I do it at least. Just make sure you do a proper warmup and stretching, then acclimate to the heavy weight properly.

i have pretty good form. and oh yeah ive maxed before, but its been awhile. but my incline has shot through the roof. havent benn pushing too heavy on flat though. been working on the upper chest. and it wasnt the smith machine. flared elbows also.

the only way to find out is to actually do it! it's just impossible to tell because of each persons unique bio mechanics.

Flared elbow benching is dangerous for the RC and mainly works the shoulders. Be very careful maxing in this manner, a slight tip forward will strain your shoulders (I know 'cause I did it, shoulder STILL bothers me).
