does anyone know how marijuana affects muscle growth? I know that alcohol is a serious retardant of muscle growth, but i have never heard anything about marijuana. Just wondering if anybody knew anything.
 
I don't think it has a serious effect physiologically, but if you are a heavy smoker it can affect your motivation, energy and intensity of your workouts. Toking once in a while won't do much harm though...
 
THC just bind to a receptor to get you high.. how the hell could it effect muscle growth? It doesn't... I toke sometimes before.. but mostly after the gym.
And i blaze all the time at work... and i've got some size
As far as alcohol, Alcohol dehydrates your body, which has a some impact on your muscle because muscle is made of water, etc etc. In moderation anythings ok though

Yes..I know - first post. I used to be a member here about 3 years ago (I was "Griz". Stopped working out for the last 2 1/2 years or so - back into it now...never mind.

Anyway, short answer to this question that has come up repeatedly over the years is... NO. Nada, none whatsoever. Marijuana has little or no effect on muscle growth.

Smoke all you want.

The only effect that would diminish your capacity is the fact that you're putting smoke in your lungs.

Argue til you're blue in the face over this one. 3rd party academic and medical evidence is solid and conclusive. Never mind the idiots that quote the propaganda put out by the DEA, ONDCP, or other agencies funded fully or in part by these self-interest organizations.

Find the hard core med studies and again answer is "No".

And FYI - I don't smoke the stuff - never liked getting high.
 
my workouts are never as good high but I love to burn right after, for me that is the only negative effect it has on lifting.
 
According to Muscle and Fitness it lowers your natural testt production. It's also a photo estrogen I believe.
I suppose if your using gear, you won't notice those sides.

I was a pot head for 10 years. I don't recomend it as a lifestyle - just my personal opinion based on experience.

WTF are you talking about?? alcohol hinders protein synthesis so it makes your muscles grow much slower than if you didn't drink...

as far as getting high--- the only effects are psychological ie motivation reducing, except for maybe some prevention of as much oxygen being absorbed by your blood stream due to smoke inhalation...

I am a pothead and all of my workout buddies are as well--- one of the best things while on cycle is smoking for 2 reasons 1. you eat a LOT more-- just keep it clean.. 2. it removes the insomnia factor that i get while on test based AA.S

I said in moderation... read the whole thing before you get all hyped up to flame someone. Eat a fat steak and have a beer post workout. It's not going to kill you, but it may make you feel better. I highly doubt a few beers here and there is going to have much effect on your bodys ability to grow...
Hell, the oldest lady in the world would drink 1oz of Alcohol at night, and she claims thats how she lives so long.
This doesn't have much to do with BB but obviously a moderation matter.

Mights and maybes really don't mean much. Pot is one of the least studied, but most commonly used drugs out there. However, that being said most of the useful and vetted research that is done is not publicized as it often conflicts with the propaganda that is spouted by supposed "experts" - usually an agency or group that has something to gain by keeping marijuana illegal (ie. government).

The WHO published a very good uninfluenced study on marijuana but when it was released in the US it was censored in various sections because of conclusions which made it out to be relatively harmless and benign at occasional use levels.

As for sports... Lots of pro athletes, lots of Olympic athletes, and lots of icons actually smoke the stuff. In fact relative to the national percentages - as a demographic/cohort athlete's use of the drug ranks only slightly less than the national.

Smoke, eat, or vaporize your weed all you want. If you do it enough to interfere with your workouts and goals - well then I think you have a problem that has little to do with the pot and more with an abuse issue of any substance (food, booze, gambling, heroin...anything).
