I don't know for sure if it does make them rise...but I would not want elevated E levels if it did...regardless of gains. It might make you nipples bigger anyway!?!?!
 
That sounds like some major bullshit. Weed is not bad for you. If you believe all the bullshit the media and government says about it, then you are a moron. Just like they make up b.s. about steroids, they make up b.s. about herb. I smoke pot everyday, and am currently a graduate student working a p.t. job and working out 2 hrs. a day 5 x a week. These idiotic tales they tell of pot destroying your life are ridiculous, to say the least. This type of ignorance pisses me off.

Not sure the scientific basis for it, but I've heard that heavy long term use can lower testosterone levels. Though it does increase the appetite. I use to know some powerlifters that smoked it to put on weight.
 
I have also heard of the estrogen levels rising from smoking chronic. I get high and workout all the time. When the workout is done I eat like a machine. Havn't noticed any negative sides yet.
 
The only reason that got out is b/c THC is stored in the testies and fat tissue. Although it is a naturl occuring chemical in the body. It has no effect on estrogen levels.
 
I mean man i love to smoke weed and workout, to me the two go hand and hand together. Example: You workout very hard, take a hard hit off the blunt bam, time to eat and sleep, killing two birds with one stone.
 
There is all kinds of bullshit floating around on both sides of this subject. I wish I had access the the old search function - I had posted some good research regarding this in the past.

Without drudging up the specifics...

Pot has been shown to have some "anti-androgenic" effects in males. In adults especially, this effect is not as cut and dry as boosting estrogen or lowering testosterone. However, in adolescents mary jane has been shown to accelerate the conversion of tesosterone to estrogen. Consider that even in adults, marijuana is known to aggravate gynecomastia.

BTW, there are several widely cited studies that concluded no effect whatsoever on estrogen/testosterone. The hardcore pro-pot crowd loves to cite those studies - but there are many that show plenty of effect. No, smoking the herb does not equal gobbling birth control pills. But if OPTIMAL performance/adaptation is you goal, getting stoned daily is probably not in your best interest.
 
pot is a muscle relaxant, and does help you lose motivation and can interfere with your focusing when you go to the gym. personally, i stopped smoking pot all together when i started working out. i smoked obscene amounts for years... i felt like it held me back quite a bit when i tried to lift. everyone is different though. maybe smoke a little something to relax your muscles if youre very sore, or perhaps pop a vicodin or xanax. i sort of miss being high, but i got bored of being stoned out of my skull all day, every day... i got a bunch of buddies that used to blaze quite often that had to stop when they were serious about lifting. well when you think about it, arnold did smoke a little now and then for the relaxing effects...
 
If you are in to BB'ing, then why would you want to smoke pot as it could hinder gains, even slightly. Just doesn't make sense to me. Some of us take steroids to pump up our gains faster, but even if pot hindered us slightly, it seems like a waste to me.
 
I SMOKE WEED LATE AT NIGHT ON THE WEEKENDS. I COULDNT IMAGINE TRYING TO WORKOUT WITH IT. BUT WHATEVER WORKS FOR YOU. :mix:
 
I don't smoke before working out, i was just trying to see what i heard was true for all those who responed thank you, but shit i hit that damn pipe/blunt as soon as i get that protein down.
 
I smoke almost everyday. It's the only way I can eat the calories I need. Otherwise, I feel so full all the time. There is absolutely no way I could smoke and lift though. I tried it once and I was warming up with some curls and felt like I was maxing out. Everything was so heavy.

I keep it post workout and right before bed. Everything seems fine too me.
 
I haven't dug up any research on this, but in ~theory~...

THC is known for coating the mylean sheaths present on nerve cells. In laymans terms, the sheaths permit proper and quick transmission of nerve impulses from the brain to your body. In the case of a muscle contraction, the impulse has to originate in the brain, which means that if your sheaths are coated, the impulse will get weaker. That, in turn, would equal poorer muscle contractions. I have no idea if this actually happens, but it is highly possible...

Just my theoretical 2c.

yes marijane can make the estros rise. Old news. Guys have been getting gyno from it forever now...why don't you clean your act up while on and wait until your off to get back to your addiction..
 
There is a journal on the net you can read all kinds of studies on weed. It's called the Journal of cannabius. It''s a medical journal devoted to research on the effects of weed on people with different diseases. There is a wealth of information in there. Used it in a paper I wrote for a biochemistry paper in college.

Smoke Weed, DOnt let it SMoke You.........pot shouldnt do anything to hurt you physically cause ive been smoking pot for the past 5 years chronocally and been bodybuilding still. I can see how it will make you lazy and not go to the gym but some of the best workouts ive had were when I was high. Its OK wit me!
 
I smoked at least every day for about a year, and here's what i found its effects to be on my body from a bodybuilding standpoint: first of all, the only time i ever really cheated on my diet was from when i was high. i trained myself not to eat after i smoked, but even when i was trying to be really strict i at least cracked a couple times a week. I always had puffy nipples (slight gyno) from puberty, but i'm convinced that smoking weed aggrevated it, seeing that it got worse as my chronic smoking continued. Now i have some nolvadex to combat this. damn you mary jane. As far as lowering natural testosterone levels, i think so. Maybe it was just in my head but it seemed that when i stopped smoking my libido went up. Perhaps BS, perhaps not. Like slyder said, smoking is ok in moderation, ya heard.
 
This past summer i worked out almost everyday and didnt smoke at all and was having the best workouts of my life.. then i started smoking everynight and at the gym i just couldnt get those last reps up liked i used to. Beccuse of this i quit working out for 3 months (lack of motivation). Now im back in the gym and smoking less weed, but i can still feel the weed the day after i smoke. Now I've been smoking in moderation and it seems to be ok (3-5) times a week.

Maybe im different from other ppl and weed effects me differently, but in conclusion smoking definatly kills my muscle stamina.
 
WTF! Ive smoked weed everyday for years I know people in there 60s who are long term stoners and not one tit between them ,show me a study that tells me cannabis causes gyno. I have smoked/grown all differant strains of cannabis and they all have differant effects some make you lively and active some will put you to sleep
If you dont want weed gyno only use non aromatising weed :p
 
THC is an estrogen agonist. THC is a natural substance though, and there are compounds that are extremely similar in your body (same chemical structure I believe), thus some people argue it can't be that bad for you.

I'm sure a joint here and then won't do much, but if you puff the magic dragon several times a week you're gonna fuck yourself up good.

Once met this guy who smokes every day. He's skinny as hell, he survives on beer and chips but sometimes goes days without eating, and he stays up three days in a row sometimes. Not sure if it was the weed that fucked up his mind or if it was already fucked before. Still, you wanna be careful with psychologically addictive drugs such as weed... and roids :)
 
This dose not state that cannabis caused gyno its states that it MAY contribute towards it
Cannabis has never been the SOLE cause of gyno
 
No, it states in this study that it is a well recognized cause of gynecomastia. They were not sure if it was the cause for this particular patient. All you have to do is google that shit, and you will get a plethora of studies linking the two. This is just the first one i saw.
 
I know people who have done 500mg/wk test with no pct and have not gotten gyno. That doesnt mean test won't cause it. Either way i think it would be safe to end this thread by saying smoking too much has no benefits to your health.
 
A buddy of mine used to smoke tons a day... and I mean tons. He got gyno in one nip so bad it made me sick to my stomach to see it. He had nipple discharge too. NASTY.
He stopped smoking when I told him it was the weed. I started to go away. Now its almost gone!!!
 
gotta love potheads! I have a buddy who grows his own stuff and only the Lord knows how much he smokes a day but he is convinced that pot is helping him find his inner being. Gimmie a break this guys head is so doped up he doesnt know the difference between his dick and his ass.

You may use some sort of technique to limit carcinogen inhalation, but regardless smoking weed out of a pipe or in a joint does have those negatives
 
I can't understand those who defend smoking pot everyday. I mean, it's the most absurd argument, it's not even worth debating with them. One day they'll realize that they could be doing something more productive then sitting around stoned.

All drugs can be handled with proper education and temperance.
 
Most that I know dont actually. It's probably a mixed bag with the individual (behavior/chemistry) being the ultimate determinate.


If it doesnt impeed training (be surprised if it did not because I've never seen a very cardiovascularly fit smoker) and allows you to eat substantially more it could be helpful.

I smoke everyday ,I have a good job and a family, weed dose not run my life but I do like to grow and smoke. if your a lazy person then weed may make you worse if youre active and out going then weed may make you more active

Personally, and as several bros have posted here, I get amped. My best work outs have been while I've been a bit stoned. I concentrate like a laser and feel every fiber of my muscle working. A close friend of mine who's on SEAL team 3 told me he and his platoon often use it during missions for the same reason. Arnold, also, said in an old interview, "I enjoy grass and hash."

One of the most unpleasant short term effects that's pretty much universal is tachycardia (rapid heart beat). Over the long term antimotivational syndrome is quite common also. Depending on what you want to believe on the gyno issue, you can find dozens of studies that support it.

agreed, workout, smoke eat smoke eat smoke eat, it couldn't be any better, and there is no proof that it increases estrogen.
 
Moderation...nothing bad with :rasta: :rasta: :rasta: ...as long as you are not one of those morons who smoke all day and get nothing done. For me there is nothing like after an extremely bussy week of work & working out relaxingwith some :rasta: . Same thing for after a hard workout before sleep.

Taking steroids disrupts endocrine function by inhibition.

Marijuanna disrupt endocrine function by altering steroid metabolism.

"disrupt" is a broad term. If you're taking test or andro, or anything that coverts to andro, you may have worse problems. I base this on the study I posted above.

Bottom line: Weed is not an ergogenic aid.
