Maintenance for the ectomorph...

Fantômas

New member
I'm trying to help train this guy I know that is the most insane ectomorph I have ever seen in my life with zero success so far. 4000-7000 calories a day with not an ounce of fat or muscle gained, although strength has improved some. He could burn what I eat in 2 days while picking lint from his navel for 20 minutes. Anyway, he wanted to put on a little mass but does not have the appetite, funds or even interest/time to consume the obscene amounts of calories it would require to build and then maintain some muscle mass. I was trying to work out some kind of program he would be able to follow, but then I started thinking about it. Understanding that more muscle would simply further increase his metabolism anyway, I'm wondering if it might even be unhealthy (if by some miracle he built some significant muscle) in the sense of the body's breakdown process from higher metabolic rates. He is only 23 and already some health and physical issues, the last thing I want to do is exacerbate deterioration of his health. What do you guys think? To Train or not To Train?

Welcome to the boards brother!! Well to begin with you say he doesnt have the interest to consume the amount of food it takes to even build muscle. Does he have an interest in building muscle? My metabolism was very much like you described and it was my intense desire that allowed me to break through that. If theres not much interest at all I doubt he will get anywhere with liftng. As for health, Id think lifting would make him healthier. Hope that helps

Yeah, I don't think he's interested in being as "hardcore" as I suspect he would have to be to get results - and then to have to maintain. What kinda of caloric intake did it take for you to start seeing gains?
