Lower Back Pain...?

Legion Kreinak2

Okay tonight I did back/shoulders. Deadlifts went over nicely. I'm pretty sure you're supposed to get that tense feeling in your lower back, right? And you stick ass out, back arched, and chest out and no knees over toes. That's generally good form, yes? Bar hugged close to body, also.

Then, I went and did bentover rows. I got to my second set of eight, and then on the 5th or 6th rep I felt a twinge or pinching pain in my lower back. I immedieatly stood up and racked the bar. I didn't want to risk injury. I was doing it at a 45 degree angle, could that have been the problem? Perhaps I should try doing it at 30 next time? And I did then "Yates' Style", underhanded.

Any feedback?

Sounds like a minor tweak or pull. . .nothing serious. You can get these even when you use good form. I don't think you would have injured yourself, but it was good to be cautious.

Sometimes if you over twist or move the wrong way, you can inheret a pull that is unrelated to weight training.

I don't do bent over rows for this very reason. I did them once and my back ached for days. It wasn't sore; it was HURT. Every time I bent over to do a simple task, it would give me a twinge. I had a bad fall when I was a kid, so maybe I've got something going on there - whenever I feel back pain it's in this particular 'spot.' When I do barbell rows, I do them Yates style.

I have found that standing cable rows don't aggravate my back at all. Haven't experimented too much with seated rows.
