Lower back pain....PLZ HELP

Im 17 yrs old and i have just started madcow's 5x5 program.

For some reason every time i do squats i get some lower back pain. It is strange because i only get it when i set the weight back on the rack. It is a sharp pain in my lower back on the right side usually. It hurts for the rest of the day after that and the next day usually. Its weird because only squats cause it.

I dont want to take a week off ( i just did and it made no difference) so i need some input plz!!!!
 
How long have you been lifting? If your not used to the movements your back is probably weaker than your legs and you are over working your back muscles to compensate. You need to build your back muscles up first before you start to do sqauts. I'd try supermen, and light good mornings. Do them for awhile and then move onto light sqauts with higher reps to build up a good base to start heavier 5x5 workouts.
 
I was afraid of that...though ive been workin out 8 months, havent done much legs...ty for the input bro

One more question....how come deadlifts dont hurt it??? They are a lot of back too
 
Because you probably don't go slow on the down movement. Squats you go fairly slow on both movements.
