I was listening to a trainer at my gym (one that I think actually knows what he's doing) tell someone that low arches in your feet can cause problems when squatting, deadlifting, etc. Low arches throw off alignment and can cause problems in knees, hip, lower back and even neck.
I have completely flat feet. I've been having problems with hip, lower back and mid-back pain everytime I try to start squatting again. I never thought about my flat feet causing a problem. It seems to makes sense, since your feet will roll inward, especially on the way up.
Is there truth in this? If so, what can I do to combat this problem? I wear sneakers with a decent arch, but there is still pronation in my feet and ankles. I have orthodic inserts that I had made several years ago that I don't wear anymore, but maybe I could just wear them at the gym.
