A friend and co-worker of mine died yesterday in a helicopter accident.
He was 32.
Him, his live in girfirend (who also in a friend and co-worker of mine) and his father was out flying. His father is a skilled pilot, and has countless flying hours. They landed outside my friends house, and went in to get something. They ran back out and got in the helicopter. As it was about to take off, something happend, and it only got about 5 meters above the ground when the rotors touched the water, and draged it under.
The girlfrend surfaced pretty quickly after the acident. And some fishers tried to get her out of the water, but she refused, she wanted to find the others. A little while later, the father floated up, unconcious, but alive. But my friend did not appear.
Divers came to the crash fast, and started searching. At last, they found the chopper, but it was at 70m deep, and it was to dark and muddy to see if he was still inside. Finally, late last night, they extracted it from the water, and found him inside.
Its a tragic loss for his family and friends. And he will be missed sorely.
Im 26, and this is the first death of a close one i have experienced. What scares me is that i dont really feel anything. Im guessing it will come when we go to a litte seremony tonight where he died.
