Loose crimp on vial

If the metal ring on a vial is loose but the rubber stopper is in place, is the vial still airtight?

i would say yes,but it's a hard call without actually seeing it.

THe metal ring spins around, but the rubber stopper is tight. I drew a ml out of the vial and the oil pulled into the syringe. Is that metal ring there to keep the rubber in place or does it do anything else? I have never had this happen before.

metal is there to keep rubber in place. sounds like your lab got sloppy.

if it isnt leaking its till sealed..just squeeze the it tighter to hold
