Looking to build a home gym

I hope this is the right place to post this question. I am looking to equip a home gym. Actually turning the garage into the gym. My wife and three boys are getting into it so this keeps us at home instead of burning the roads to and from the gym.

1. What is the best power rack system for the $$? Want the rack and hi/low pulley. Looked at several online but you never can really tell the quality until you get it.

2. Where is the best place to order to include shipping? Looking for the rack w/pulley. Good sturdy bench to do bench/incline/shoulder press... Barbell set to include #400 weights. Maybe d-bell set 15-100's if I can keep it under budget.

Thanks guys! and girls!!

I have read similar post on other boards because I am thinking of doing the same thing and most have said as far as the plates and d-bells go that it is way cheaper to get them local if you can due to the high shipping cost. I have not really found anywhere local in my area that carries stuff beyond 40's in d-bells and have not found any plates. Right now I am holding out for some used stuff in the classifieds or a gym going out of business so maybe I can get some quality stuff. I got a few months left on my gym membership anyways.
http://www.newyorkbarbells.com is an online site that sells some stuff also.

Thanks. I found a guy that has a good bit of d'bells and plates local. I believe I am going to order a PowerTech rack, bench, and lat tower. We have a local store that sells used equip but for the most part asks new prices for junk!
http://bigfitness.com seems tp have the best prices to include shipping that I have found.

Build it!

I did and it's great!

I second new york barbell. Delivered it in days perfectly, excellent quality products and fantastic customer service. Free truck shipping on most items like power racks. New york barbell is the online gym equipment king! Highly recommended.

Don't buy one of those multi-gms you see on TV, as you'll end up using it as a coat hanger!!!

Get yourself a proper power-rack, some plates, bars for dumbbells and barbell combinations, and your set.
Good luck Bro.

NO multi-shit. Riverrock, just like you said, "Get yourself a proper power-rack, some plates, bars for dumbbells and barbell combinations, and your set."

Everything that works can be done with the euipment listed. Order placed today!

I have used these guys for some things in the past, good variety of items you won't find at a regular sports authority, or the like. Good service and quality was good. shipped quickly. just my .02.

I odered my stuff from MegaFitness. NOBODY touched their prices. Shipping included in price and gave me a military discount. Didn't ask for it they asked if I was military!
Got a BodySolid Pro rack, Ironmaster Superbench, BodySolid preacher curl bench, BodySolid vert leg press, 500 pounds of weight, ez curl and regular bar, and 9'x12' of mats. The guy I dealt with was good and helped out a lot. Said he'd give anyone I refer my military discount.

I did the garage thing myself about 6 years ago, best thing I ever did. I just hit a lot of local sporting goods stores and used places to get the best equipment cheap.

I have a cage, flat and incline bench, a power tower thing for dips and chins, DB's from 20 - 70, oly set with 4 extra 25s, two standard bars with 300 lbs in loose wieght, and a cable tower. Oh, and a heavy bag.

Put down some cheap rugs with a pad underneath, a cheap radio, and you are good to go.
