Looking for leg routine that doesn't involve squats...

Due to a neck/spine injury my lifting partner has, he can't have a bar or any type of weight resting on his neck, so trying to get some input for a routine for him.

sort of limits the mass building exercises to lunges and leg press, or perhaps squats with dumbbells, but hes looking for some other ideas.
 
I would think leg press would be his best bet for overall mass, what I'd do anyways

When I squat the bar is halfway down my back...doesn't come near my neck.

He could try olympic lifting...snatch...clean...pulls...none touch the back
 
Deads work the legs quite a bit as well.

A combination of deads, single legged squats with DBs, and leg press could actually help him gain alot of mass.
