Looking for Info on Anti Inflammatory Steroid

As many of you know I have been gone for awhile wost ith a spinal cord injury. I am in the final stages of getting back to normal and within a week of hitting the gym for the first time. My doctor is still giving me injections in my spine around where the trauma occured with steroid called celestone He tells me is is very potent and will relieve remaining pressure and inflamation in the spinal area where the cord injury exists, but I am wondering if anyone lese knows anything about it. In the literature I am given it says to eat a low sodium / rich in potassium diet, decreased calories to decrease weight loss and what I really like "eat as large amounts of protein as possible while cutting the calories" does this mean this is a catabolic roid and they want to you to feed the drug protein vs. it taking it from the body ??? Anyone know or had much experiance with this drug ??? Over the course of this spinal cord injury I have lost 20 total lbs of lean body mass so I can vouch for some of them being catabolic wanting to know if I should suggest the same from this one, especially since I am walking and talking again with the gym in near site. Any help appreciated and thanks to all those that sent emails / messages that knew me and knew I was down I know many of you still communicate with my wife.

thanks everyone,
Indy-

Ive used and abused celestone (also know as cortisone in the sport medicine world)over the past two years for a hip bursitis. At first, it worked well, then the relief lasted for a very short time time and I would inject 3 ml in my bursa twice a week. I finally gave it up and got surgery. I know it can offer relief for spinal injuries too, only you really need a doctor to give it to you. The effectiveness of the method depends on the injury I guess, but it is not a permanent solution.

BTW, betamethasone is the chemical in celestone, I believe. It is often injected with lidocaine or marcaine, a local anesthetic.

Nothing I have heard regarding Cortisone is very good. It does seem to provide relief in the Acute stages of an Injury, but then it all goes down hill from there. I.E. As time passes, the efficacy of the drug drops and from what I understand the drug can actually start breaking down healthy tissue...CATABOLIC.

I've lost most of my faith in Western medicine. The best patient is a motivated, knowledgable and proactive one. Don't ever blindly put your health into the hands of someone that leaves you sitting in a room twiddling your thumbs while they thumb through the Physicians desk reference in their office.

Now im not bashing all Doc's, but like anything else in life you have to do your homework, get good references and then proceed accordingly.

From the sounds of your injury, your lucky your not in a wheelchair. First and foremost on the Agenda is to find the optimum way to facilitate your healing process. That is something I would be discussing with as many Dr's as it takes until I am satisfied with what I'm hearing. 99% of the time it will be like a salad bar...you take the info you need from them and leave the rest.

Obviously you need to utilize drugs to control the inflammation and pain...but do you need to use Cortisone? What other options are out there? How well do they work? What are the side effects? These are the questions, I would be asking.

On the Anabolic side. Maybe run a low dose TEST, DECA, HGH stack to help jumpstart and assist with the healing/recovery process. Particularly once you get the green light to begin your rehabilitation program. Definitely keep your diet in check and high in protein.

I don't know all the details of your injury or what your Dr. is doing and why. The most important thing is to ensure that you are directly involved in your own healthcare. If your just a number and your Doc is just grasping at straws and going through the motions, you need to take charge and find another Doctor.

I wish you the best.
