I've always done dips, but I'll tell you what really developed my triceps - close grip bench on the smith machine. Keep your hands so the thumbs are outstretched along the bar and touching - like the bar is resting in your palms. Have the bar come down to the upper pec area and go heavy - 4 to 6 reps. But make sure you use the stops on the smith machine when doing this or you'll get pinned for sure.
How about both dips and close grip or are they working the same heads? when u talk about dips are you talking about on the paralell bars or between benchs?
Weighted dips between two bars, but make sure your grip is not any wider than shoulder width and you don't drop any lower than your elbows at a 90 degree angle or you are working chest, best over all mass builder. I llike to cycle that one in and out of my routine with close grip bench. Heavy skull crushers in good form are another kick ass mass builder.
Yeah robboe is right.......but you cant go wrong with dips in any routine...dont go over doing them, they get worked from bench press, shoulder presses and dips should just about kill them off, add close grip bench presses if they r sucking!
Robboe, if someone comes to a board and asks a general question about a routine and they get some free information then how can they complain? If they want more than that then they should ask more specifically, do some more research or go see a personal trainer.
Well, no, he does have a good point. Just throwing out lifts is mental masturbation (Not pointing fingers, I did it myself). What makes a lift useful is how it fits in a routine.
