I want to get maybe a .45 or maybe a .40 (no I don't want a rifle)

i dont know a lot about all the brands, I just want it for sport shooting out at a friends land.

What you guys got? or if you are against guns feel free to flame me :chomp:

i have a .40 and a 9mm love em both.

.40 is a ruger p91dc

9mm is a kel tec p11 and is my CC weapon.

i wouldnt exactly call glock cheap , i mean their more like midrange priced.

Clockwork , do some research and go to a shop and see what feels good in your hands man , thats what is important.

PSE Coyote 55# recurve with an aluminum riser decked out with arrow rest, 5-pin, 9" front stabilizer and rear shorty, and about six different vibration dampeners.

Personally, I'd be a bit more apprehensive if I was walking down the street and saw someone carrying a nocked bow, than if I thought someone might be carrying a concealed loaded firearm. Swords also cause similar ongazers to gawk with fear and awe.

Then again, I'm the type of person who'd walk around public with a chainmail hauberk, so I doubt I represent the norm in the modern world.

I've tested a 9mm and a .40 and I'd prefer a .40 just don't know what brands are reliable

Kimber Pro CDP 1911 .45

Springfield XD-45

S&W .40

I would go with an XD over the Glock any day.
same here.

clockwork , there are alot of good brands , go to a gun shop and look at feel and "play" so to speak with all the different brands and sizes and see what feels good to you , then go home and do research on the gun you like. everyone has different taste on weapons , but what matters is how it feels to you as you may one day be putting your life on it.

no place has the 3'' XD anywhere around here. WTF? I want the 9mm for my carry weapon.

glock 40/45 cal are both pop.

Springfield XDs feel so good.

Also, if you dish out the money, H&K USP and USP compact are said to be the best by far. Feel around. I'm in that stage at the moment.

ok just want to make sure before I put down 5-6 hundred bucks with gun and accessories

uh..do yourself a favor and by a HK USP.

you can get a 45 and it feels and handles like a 9mm. what solid firearm...

hk is way tooo $$$$

you can go buy a taurus millennium edition 45 that feels like a 9

you get what you pay for. guns don't really devalue at all compared to other items.

if you are going to invest in a firearm, get something solid.

the extra money is worth it. worth every penny....

I don't know anything about guns, but how many of you that carry firearms have actually used them and suffered no ill consequences from the law?

:cow:

glock 22 super custom is a nice .40, id goto a range see if you can try some out and see what feels best before you buy

yeah, you definitely have to go to a range and try out a lot of the firearms...you would definitely have to be stupid to do otherwise.

you like the 40 cal fishtales?
feels very comfy in my hand, like it was made for me. the 21 was a little big for my hand. and I have a 19, but i let pops keep it at his house, its a comfy one also

Best gun you can ever own, Smith and Wesson .357 magnum revolver with either a 4" or 6" barrel. You can also shoot .38 caliber rounds in this if desired. This gun has been proven time and again to be the most reliable, maintenance free, affordable gun. Get one with the rubberized houge grips and you will be VERY happy for many years to come.

This gun should be the first gun anyone buys, long before glocks and sigs, etc, etc. They are ok, but this is the staple.

first gun I learned to shoot, accurate, reliable.

oh and an option if you want to go less expensive at first is to try pawn shops or used gun places. They will usually have a couple 357's on hand to look at. The thing I like about revolvers is that because they are so simple compared to semi autos, it's easier to not get a bad or damaged gun. Plus, my 357 lever action rifle uses the same ammo, so that nice when going shooting. multiple guns, 1 box of ammo.

Thats a sweet setup, but the dimensions of my glock23 are very conducive to concealed carry, for me. And the .40 caliber has enough power for self defense purposes if need be.

Money isn't the issue.. I will invest in something that will last awhile and people recommend. I will try them out before I buy of course but since i can't try out EVERY gun there I'd like some opinions. I like the .40 soley due to the extra rounds

13+1 in the springfield xd-45. Carries more than the 40 and is almost exactly the same size.

Personally I love my 1911 but the XD won me over for a poly gun.

I'll agree, that XD45 did feel super sweet in my hand. I only didnt like 2 things about it.

1. The grip safety. It was just a little wierd.
2. The little plastic round piece that sticks out under the barrel when the slide is to the rear.

The grip safety is one of the best features for me, just like my 1911.

The little plastic round piece you are talking about is actually the metal guide rod.

HK or Sig Sauer if you want .40. You get what you pay for. Glock makes good compact carry guns, but I dont think that is what you are looking for.

Get a full size H&K USP .40 for your "needs"

I got a glock 10mm, which is a glock 20, will destroy any target thrown at it, cant carry to well, but I do at times, and yes to samoth I do carry mine at times along with my roommates who also carry their glocks, you know where I am ....

The HK usp 45 is the gun I want and what I consider the best 45 out there ...

I am drunk so if any of this doesnt make sense, that is why, but it all should, so just reason with yourself, and actually talk to peeps at a gun range, dont talk to the little pansies on this site that havent shot more then a couple guns .....

Get a USP Heckler and Kock 45 auto,

You will be very happy, great handgun, like a hummer you can not destroy it and it works always.

If you decide you want something other than a 45, which is what I would recommend, 9mm would be my second choice.

40 auto and some other calibers are newer and not as popular, may be okay but it is nice to be able to buy ammunition anywhere.

can I use it while I take a bath?

can I use it while I take a bath?
of course why buy a hand gun you can not play with in the tub.

Besides some crazy women may try and rape you.

And you can get it with a lazer for under a grand.

If you want to spend that much I still say H&K, but look at kimber

The 50 caliber desert eagle is a lot of hand gun, ammo is an issue and not as reliable as h&k but also a great gun

ya I don't want a .50 that's way too much gun and I don't want to spend that much on ammo that's why I am still leaning towards the .40. I am going to the range this weekend to check them out

My girlfriend is going to buy the Glock 26 (compact 9mm) within the next couple months.

I have the Glock 9x19 and am very pleased. I agree with Superdave who said Glocks are the Toyotas of handguns.

I have a compact .40 glock(23), and it's hard to hold steady if you've been shooting all afternoon. The last time I was at the range someone beside me was shooting a full sized .40 and it was a lot easier to hold steady. For a girl especially I would say to get nothing bigger than a 9mm.

I have a 26 and a 27 - I prefer the 27 actaully. I dont think it is a good choice for his needs. A 19 would be a good choice, but a USP .40 is a better gun

I was joking obviously, but my handgun variety experience is probably limited compared to most of you guys.

I do know that I shot my buddies 9mm Ruger and it had a lot of recoil/kickback, especially compared to my 9mm Glock. My other friend's S&W also had a lot of recoil, granted it was a .45 though.

Minimal recoil, light weight and compact size is why I suggested the Glock26 to my GF.

I've never shot a 26, but it's a pretty gun IMO. (I was joking also there broly)
