I have 5 of them. 2 adult females, 1 adult male, and 1 male baby and 1 female baby! They are sooo cute but they make the weirdest sounds EVER!

They are sugar gliders and they are cool. Kind of a mixture between a squirrell, a hamster and a bat. They are nocturnal (sp?) too. They don't make much noise though unless you alarm them. Really cool animals though. They love fruits and yogurt and they eat cat food!

i'll let you know when we have more babies. You can buy one from me. We will also have boxer puppies ready to go right after friggin Christmas. I know, that sucks. We certainly did not plan on that. Could have been before Christmas. :rolleyes:

Like Oh My God....I have seen them in the pet stores but never gliding.....so freakin cute!!! Now I want one!!!
I actually had a hurricane refugee (squirrel) for about a year. Bottle fed him. But by far that sugar glider is cutest!

I didn't pay $300 a piece for them. I really did make a hell of a deal on them. got cages, food, bowls, toys, etc.... for $550

Not too bad huh?

my female is a solid white boxer. They sell for a crapload of money lol

I am hoping to end up with at least one white female.

We have a fawn male too but hes not the dad. His balls haven't quite dropped yet. hahahaha Hes soooo cute though.

The care for them is really simple though. Feed them and give them lots of water. Thats about all...oh yeah, and clean the cage.

I paid 1000 fore a boxer pup at a pet store but I know the breaders sell them fore like 400.I want a brindle but will settle fore a fawn or mix.

Never trust the advice from people in the in the petshops, they are idiots, seriously. They think ferrets are just hamsters with sharp teeth.

I've never owned them, knew plenty of people who did when I was into exotics in the 1990s, when sugar gliders first came to this country.

You seriously want to get at least one book about them, seriously. But at least start here:

They are omnivorous and actually need more space than the pet shop probably lead you to believe. They like worms and stuff, too and it helps fill out their diet. You have to mix their diet up, though, or their health will suffer.

You also want to start hand taming the babies, if the adults aren't tamed they never will be but the babies can be quite friendly if they're tamed properly.

Oh, and you need to find an exotics vet if they get sick, a regular cat/dog vet wouldn't know how to treat them.

If you have any questions about your gliders... just let me know. I spent YEARS, growing up, a pet store. They always had gliders. They are awsome. Bond with them when they are young. BUT FYI: careful about where and how you cover the cage. SERIOUSLY. They look super cute but they shit a TON and it's super nasty shit. It gets EVERYWHERE. It's crazy because it won't just drop to the bottom of the cage. It will be all over the sides of the cage and the floor around it, if you aren't careful.

They're actually marsupials, not rodents at all. They have a long life span, too, 12 to 15 years or so.

Whos we you keep saying we. We are not married yet. Maybe next year but you better not be cheating on me down there otherwise its over between us. LOL! They look like hot pads that you set pots and pans on when they are gliding. If anyone steals that as an idea I will hunt you down if I am not cut in for the profit

MM- thanks for the advice. The people that we bought the set up from gave us books and all. I know about the worms, crickets, etc...that they eat.

Angel-- they do smell a little but no worse than hamsters. The only thing bad about them is that they spray you kinda like a skunk, when they are nervous but the smell washes right off. lol

Screw that. I am all set with having any type of "pet" that sprays like that.. I know with skunks you can have that thingy taken out. Can you do that with these creatures as well?

I don't know about having the de-scented. They really don't smell that bad though. They are just the coolest lil creatures and they live a long damn time. Did you read the part about putting them in your pocket? they just cuddle up in there and sleep. i will take some pics tonight of mine and post em up. The ones that I posted were from google search.

they do not sleep upside down..they sleep in a pouch...go google them and you can check them out. and the man loves them too..It was both of our ideas to get them.
 
Be truthful did you throw that poor little furry thing up in the air and snap a pic because you wanted to see what it looked like flying or did he/she do that on her own and you just happened to have a camera? You know like kind of testing how low a cat can fall from and still land on its feet. LOL! (Its pretty low too like inches almost! Not that I would know because I did not test that theory myself when I was 11 years old with my neighborsy cat frisky over the grass. Nope I just heard it!

I told yall a lil further up in this thread that the pics that I posted were not actually pics of the sugar gliders that I have....I googled the pics just to post on here...but I will surely take some tonight and post them.

My dogs just go and sniff the cages like they are nuts. One of the gliders made a noise this morning while my female boxer was next to the cage and she about shit on herself. It was quite funny! lol
