Longhorns

I believe the LONGHORNS are being underrated this season. Don't get me wrong, they have to do it all year long to prove they are underrated. They will beat OU this year and may be in the hunt for the National Title. Yes I am a "Homer", but the Horns have a new and improved attitude and some super athletes. Watch Out!!

Hook em Horns!!

WAR EAGLE

Well, I can't say much about my Tigers... there was more Hype around that game than I could handle. I was very disappointed in what happened.......very pissed at Tubberville for everything... we seemed to have a correlation with our coaches... every 5th year we end up getting screwed.... in the 5th year of Bobby Bowden he had some good recruits and we ended up buying out his contract.....and having a losing season... is this season going to be a repeat?

Thank you for your offensive ccordinator!! (he was ours 5 yrs ago) He's our new head coach. We spanked UK Sunday in their house. Which we've done 5 of 7 times.

I think by watching your game the other day it was obvious what a gifted coach he is. Hopefully you guys can get it rolling. Good luck the rest of the year and Beat Bama!!

Every year we here about Texas's new attitude and super athletes, but with Mack Brown as your coach, you can hand over the Big12 Championship to Stoops and his Sooners. Mark it down!

Somehow you have joined the crowd, who is obviously ignorant, and thinks that it is Brown vs Stoops weekend.
Fuck stoops, it is the athletes on the field making plays not the coaches wearing the headsets. Mack is our coach we support our coach and if anything, our offensive coordinator should be fired...Greg Davis.

Mack does a hell of a job with recruiting, game planning, and coaching, but the coordinators are the ones calling the plays which are not getting executed against OU. OU has a stellar defense, everyone knows this, and everyone who plays them knows it will be a challenge. But rather than try to be annoying by saying oh Mack Brown is sucky coach, try to show some class and realize this is a supreme Rivalry in college football and OU has had the upper hand for 3 years...

It will change this year when TX pounds OU to extend their overall series lead. Bottom LINE: you have won the last three - but TX still has still won more than OU.

Until OU has won more than TX it will be TX OU weekend.
I hope you hook up with me while you are in Texas in October. I want to see your pathetic ass after stoops and the sooners lose...

Because you are from texas, I'll cut you some slack for your assanine comments. Yes, it is the players on the field who make the plays...it is the COACHES who get them prepared for the game and in the right positions to make those plays. Mack is a great recruiter, but an underachiever as a coach. Just ask Major Applewhite or Chris Simms how great Mack is. If Mack would have played Applewhite that season, you guys probably would have beaten us. Tell Mack thanks for me next time you see him. Stoops won a National Championship with John Blake's players in his second year, so explain that one to me Einstein. You idiots have said the same shit for the past 3 years, but you still get the shit kicked out of you despite having supposedely the best athletes in America.
To you guys, the bottom line probably is the Red River Shootout. This is because you have to settle for being # 2 in the Big 12 year after year. For us the BOTTOM LINE is National Championships...which is 7 including one in 2000. Were you even alive the last time ut won one of those? I'll be more than happy to hook up with you after we win...yet again.
Don't talk to me about class...texas has some of most classless fans in the country.

Since they don't even have full strength Coors Light in Oklahoma I will cut you some slack for your assanine comments. But what is your excuse for Oklahoma leading the country in Inbred Marriages? "My cousin is married to my sister"..."A least we can cheer for Bobby"...who cares you classless piece of shit...we still have beaten you more times than you beat us...and we will add another this year...

Thank God I am from Texas where I can meet someone outside of my family tree for marriage, and have a full strength bud @ my tailgate party. the only time OU fans can have full strength beer at a tailgate party is when they come to Texas in October...or they cross the Red River to buy then drive back home...OU SUCKS

What is your deal with "full strength beer"? I don't even drink beer and if I did, it would be a little better brand than Coors Light. You are the epitome of texas fans. You can't beat us, so you just make up worthless shit to try to cut us down...typical loser. We are talking football and you come back with how strong your beer is and talk of incest? I bet your parents are proud. What ever happened to your talk of "class" and this being a great rivalry? I'm glad we had this little talk because now everyone on the board realizes what a pathetic bag of shit you are. It's people like you that make beating texas that much better.

You are an imbred piece of trash. You think bashing the Horns for the last three games makes OU look good and smart. You try to spin the words and find some witty comeback to degrade my opinion to make the OU Sooners look smart.

OU FANS AND TX FANS hate each other and everyone knows this. I bet you wont even show your face here in October. I will be glad to place a wager on the game Okie Boy. I will even meet up with you in Tx in October to collect, if you have enough class to honor the wager.

Let me guess you dont even gamble....mr goody 2 shoes

Did you not know Oklahoma is the only state that does not allow beer companies to ship in regular strength beer? Most Oklahoma people know this, noone understands it but that is oklahoma for you.

So where do you like to go when you come to TX in October? Where can we meet in person?

Swain, thanks for an intelligent reply. yes Texas lookis good and so does OU. This year at the Shootout it should (once again) be two undefeated teams battling for bragging rights and a chance to play for the BIG12 Title.

This TX OU Rivalry just keeps getting better and better, and more and more Bitter. they are both quality teams and National Powerhouses.

Probably it will be #1OU and #3TX

I don't have to spin your words to make you look stupid...you do a great job of that all by yourself. You're right...OU and texas fans aren't fond of each other. However, YOU took a thread that was discussing football and a great rivalry and resorted to talking about how strong your beer is...all I can say to that is wow. At first I thought this would be just a good rivalry thread, but you have proven incapable of carrying an intelligent conversation without resorting to name calling and the talk of the incredible strength of your beer.

I am so sorry that we do not have 6 point beer in our gas stations and grocery stores. How will I ever make it w/o 6 point beer? If I want to kill brain cells, I can just read your posts. From your remarks, it sounds like your mom may have been drinking a little too much "full strength beer" during her pregnancy with you. It's OK...the world needs ditch-diggers too. I suppose I am "mr goody 2 shoes" because I don't share the love of you beloved, white trash "full strength" Coors Light.

I am staying in the West End. Name your wager and the place to meet...I will be more than happy to comply. How about a case of 6-point Coors Light?

Okie, I can understand why you did not understand the beer comment. The point is there are inferior products represented by Oklahoma...beer, women, football, and you. ummmmm, I never drink coors light...again you did not understand the post. Your freaking watered down Coors Light is watered down... Your beer is watered down, this shows stupidity by someone up there, not sure who, but it is still stupid.

Then you referenced my beloved mother who recently passed away. She did not drink, rest her soul. Yes I am white, and the trash part is debatable. ummm...I dont dig ditches, but I do have friends with backhoes. There is no such thing as "white trash - coors light", but okay. I would prefer to just talk football and save the "trash-Talk" for TX OU weekend.

But thanks for reminding me of why I hate OU. If i am "reaching" by talking inferior products from OU, would it be considered a "reach" for you to bash my mother who recently passed? You did not know my mother, but that is why you should not have said anyhting about her.

I am through talking to you, you win the flame fest, and afterall OU has Owned TX for the last 3 years. All I can say is we (TX) do still own the overall series, and I think we will beat OU this year.

I will bet $50 (it is all a ditch-digger can afford)
especially since I am buying tickets to the shootout.
When the weekend gets closer I will email you a phone number, so you can call me when you get to Texas.

My point is what does an alcoholic beverage have to do with a college football rivalry. You obviously can't comprehend that most people don't concern themselves with how strong their beer is. If you would prefer to just talk football, then why would you start talking about statistics of incest and the strength of beer? Before that, we were talking about football. I wasn't really bashing your mother...I was trying to explain the level of your intelligence in these posts by saying she drank while pregnant with you. My apologies and condolences to your mother and to you for your loss. You do not know me either, but it didn't keep you from calling me a fuckface or a classless piece of shit, now did it?

Email and let me know where we can hook up. I say the bet should be a case of that beer that you are so proud of. If you want to bet cash, that will be fine with me too. Good luck to you and the Horns.

Oklahoma needs to fine tune the offense before getting to the big games.

We must not forget about K-State . . . probably the best offensive team in the Big 12 right now.

I agree...fortunately we don't play K-State this year. At least not until the Big 12 Championship.

We will be tested in the weeks of 10/4 and 10/11. Yes, by October 12, we will know what we are working with. Even if we get past Kstate and OU in back to back weeks, we still have OSU in Stillwater, A&M in College Station and Nebraska in Austin. This BIG!@ is a hell of a tough conference.
IMO this is the strongest conference in College Football, and I love it. Anybody can get upset on any game day...BIG Plays and Turnovers who has the most wins.

I think if you can get past K-State and the Sooners, you will be coasting. OSU still isn't a great team, but they do play well at home. Nebraska will lose 3 or 4 games this year at least.

Nebraska will lose 3 or 4 I agree, but they are always dangerous as is every team in the BIG 12 except like Baylor.

LongHorns

It is trouble to look past any team, so we will have to focus on Arkansas this week. The have a decent coach and a squad that beat Texas 3 years ago in the cotton bowl.

I expect TX to win by 20+

GEOFF, somebody edited your post bro...

I think what you meant is Arkansas lose by 3 touchdowns

I second that...Texas should absolutely crush the Razorbacks. I'm picking UT by 24.

These two teams AR and TX have a history, and it is a classic rivalry...BUT it would be a huge upset if the hogs oink one out against TX in Austin with a 20+ home winning streak on the line.

Not only that, but if the Horns get upset by AR this weekend I will be calling for Greg Davis' head on Monday. (OC for TX)

Horns by 20+ and I expect to see the 2nd and third string by end of the third quarter...just to get some reps in . :-)

It truly amazes me that you guys are so loyal to Mack Brown. I'm not saying Greg Davis is a good coordinator, but some blame clearly lies with Brown. Isn't Mack the one who decided to start Chrissy Simms over Major Applewhite? How in the hell do you rationalize benching the Big12 player of the year? Chrissy was an OK QB and I think he has some talent, but that kid's record against Top 10 teams was an absolute embarrassment.

The reason you note the loyalty to Brown is where the program is since he took over. Title? not yet, but in the top5 and in the hunt every year. Now if we spent an hour or two breaking down game tape from the last couple TX OU games (which I actually have done a few times), you can clearly give credit to OU Defense...but there is also some poor calls with certain down and distances, there are pitch plays out wide on 3rd and 4...(maybe the worst play to run at OU is a wide toss).

There are countless poor calls on 2nd and 10 which left Chris with 3rd and 12 or 3rd and 15 after simms is sacked because the play called left no blind side protection against a blitzing defense. Now clearly Simms did not win as many BIG games as we all would have liked.
If you speak to offensive lineman and Simms you will hear there was alot of questions about what calls were being sent in on 2nd and 10 or 3rd and 5.

Anyway, Simms is in the NFL now, we have new offensive lineman coaches, a different "approach" to gameplanning by Greg Davis, and overall a better team than last year. Roy williams and C Benson (the real C-Ditty) are one year older, stronger, faster and we have two excellent QB's with exceptional mobility...as you will see in the next 4-5 weeks.

We all want the Sears Trophy, so being number 8 in the country is not our goal. However, if we are in the top 5 every year...we should be in position to get a title if we can beat OU and win the BIG12 FIRST.

Loyalty to brown, loyalty to the Horns; and if Greg Davis chokes on another lame gameplan expect Brown to release him due to pressure from the Alum.

As for why Start Simms over Applewhite? Polotics probably, I would guess Brown promised this top recruit plenty of playing time to come to Texas. Really and truly, any solid football guru can see the Applwhite is solid but he is not better than Simms.

A few things on Simms you might not know:
As starting QB he was(26-6/.813) and recorded a perfect 15-0 mark at home
» UT career record holder for completion percentage (58.7) and pass efficiency rating (138.4)
» Longhorns single-season record holder for TD passes (26, 2002) and TDs accounted for (30, 2002)
» First Longhorns starting QB since Bobby Layne (1944-47) to post three consecutive victories against Texas A&M
» Recorded the top two TD passes seasons and two of the top three passing yards campaigns in UT history
» Only QB in school annals to lead his teams to consecutive 10 (or more) win seasons
» Also ranks second on career TD passes chart (56) and fourth in completions (535), passing yards (7,097) and total offense (6,960)
» 2002 UT Most Valuable Player
» Two-time Davey O’Brien Award semifinalist (2001, '02)
» Two-time third-team All-Big 12 selection (2001, '02)
» Became just the fourth quarterback in UT history to be selected in the NFL Draft and the first since Rick McIvor in 1984

I know ou peeps like to pick on Brown and Trash Talk Simms, but as someone who has studied the tape and spoken to both please consider a renewed perspective.

SF

I hear what you're saying and by no means do I think Sims was a bad QB, but there is still something to say for his inability to step up in the big games. He has great stats for his career, but his stats were padded when you guys played teams like Baylor and Kansas or anyone on your non-conference schedule for that matter. You guys would have won those games with anyone as QB. It was the big games that Sims failed you. Did he ever even throw a TD against a top 10 team? I know he didn't against us in 3 years and I know he had more interceptions than TDs in games against Top 10 opponents. You can't blame your coach for all of those INTs. I disagree about the Applewhite/Sims situation. Sims was definitely more talented, but that does not make him a better QB. Applewhite had the respect of the team and was a great leader who made few mistakes. You guys didn't need a big playmaker...just someone who wouldn't hand the ball over to the other team. Like Nate Hybl for instance. Josh Heupel will never play a down in the NFL, but he was a much better college QB than Sims ever was. Heupel stepped up in big games and led us to a 63-14 win over the Horns and to a National Championship. Talent can never make up for heart and Major Applewhite even won the respect of OU fans with his heart.

Well shorthorn, I guess you're going to blame Greg Davis for the Razorbacks scoring 38 points on you guys. Give it up...Texas is the most over-hyped team in the country again. Looks like the BCS title is going to escape Mack Brown for another year. I guess as long as you guys win 9-10 games every year and go to the Cotton Bowl you'll keep him around. I hope so...best thing that ever happened to OU. I'll say it again...

Great athletes + shitty coach = another trip to a mediocre bowl

Players make the plays, but coaches like Stoops get his players ready for the big games.

Pig SUUUUUUUUUUEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See you in Oct.

Texas is still a force and will threaten Oklahoma.

Oklahoma's Offense is looking better each game.

You know you have a great team, when you can put in the second team at half time.

Well, I am utterly disappointed in our whole team. hats off to the Hogs, they looked sharp and they won the game outright.

If I could choose between Mack Brown or Bob Stoops I would take Stoops (who wouldn't). I have to accept the hand I am dealt here, and I have to say it is a sad day in Horn Land.

I pin this game on all of the coaches and all of the players. We had stale game plans on offense, @ least we should have been able to score as many as the hogs.

Our defense was dominated. I think the story line should be "Hogs O-LINE knocks over LongHorns". Their O line was stunning, and we were flat on offense.

We got beat, I give the Hogs credit they played well.

See you in October.

I think Arkansas is going to be a lot better than most people thought at the first of the season. Matt Jones is a great athlete and their offensive line is solid as well. The Horns will bounce back from this and still have a good season, but I think hopes of a NC have diminished greatly. Although I believe in my heart that OU is a better team than the Horns, that game still makes me nervous as hell!!!

That arkansas QB is one ass kicking QB, and that OLINE flat out dominated the Horns Dline and LB's.

I dont think they will do all that great this year, I think this game against TX meant alot more to the Hogs than it did to the Horns.

Like OU, every body gets up for TX we got their best shot and their best performance, and it was enough to upset the horns Saturday.

Although I can't say that it made me a little happy to see the Horns go down, I feel for you as a fan. Although it doesn't happen often, I go into mourning when my Sooners get beat.

BTW...Cedric Benson is a very average RB.

Anytime a team from either side of the red river goes down the other side is always belated. as far as average running back goes, you are only as good as your last performance and his performance was very average this weekend. The whole team seems average to me @ best - right now.

It is not a two game season, and I will wait to see where we are on October 12. By then I will know if the Arkansas game was a fluke or if we really are just average.

Well Michigan has fallen to Oregon
Florida has lost again
TX crushed Rice (big deal)
OU still on top
TX A&M falls to VT (good game)
Kstate falls to Marshall
Kstate falls to Marshall (worth stating twice)

Nice avatar shadow...Tell your horns to hurry up and get in the Top 10 so the Red River matchup will be worth more.

Even if we are ranked 20th the Shootout will be a good one this year...but we cant focus on October 12 just yet. We already overlooked the Hogs and look what happened :(

I really like that girl in my avatar, glad you like her too. BTW she is from Texas. We have alot of girls like her in Texas, and she is grand.

We should be in the top 10 if we dont lose again and if we beat Kstate on October 4.

See ya Oak

Swain I agree, Nebraska's D is back...and Lord is actually throwing a few spirals this year!! Their defense is the story.

Texas looked great, but Tulane has no real threats. I am anxious to see if Texas can beat up Kstate this weekend.

Who does OU play this week?

GOOD GAME? MIGHT AS WELL BE TULANE @ TEXAS...
I EXPECT OU TO ROUT IOWA STATE CYCLONES...
THEY HAD A LITTLE SOMETHING A COUPLE YEARS AGO, BUT OU SHOULD CRUSH THEM...IS IT IN NORMAN?

REGARDLESS WHERE IT IS PLAYED OU WILL BE HEAVILY FAVORED.

TX OU SHOULD BE A SUPER SHOOTOUT...IF WE BEAT KSTATE FIRST.

This is an away game for Oklahoma.

Dont get me wrong Swain, I understand the BIG12 is a dangerous conf. and the Cyclones may be more ready to play than OU...ummmm, I just doubt Stoops will let his troops get beat by the Cyclones.

If Mack was coach of OU then maybe you should be concerned about the OC and DC schemes, but OU is so SOLID all the way around, I expect them to beat the Cyclones by 30+ points.

OU should handle ISU very easily. We are favored by 21 and I think we will cover that. UT is favored by 6 over KSU and I'm picking the horns to win by 2 touchdowns. It's Robersons first game back and he will probably be a little rusty. Nebraska will lose at least 2 conference games this year.

Texas Tech is going to sneak up and beat a couple this year. That QB is jacked!! BIG12 is most competitive conference last few years - IMO.

Texas DC (defense coordinator) had better find a way to stop the run if we are gong to beat Kstate and OU, I just dont know if he can come up with a gameplan and get it executed in those two games. We will know where we are in two weeks.

Will the sooners score over 50 for the 3rd week in a row?

I give it a good possibility, although it is an evening game and it is supposed to get down to under 30 degrees that night. That may slow down the offense a little, but our defense can score two TDs on any given night.

I don't know what to think about K-State and Texas.

I will not predict this. . nothing would suprise me.

It will be probably the best game of the day.

Hey, this is probably the best game of the weekend in college football, and no surprise it is a BIG TIME BIG12 Matchup...

I love games like this in college football, Texas went into their home field and beat them last year, so revenge is on the mind of Kstate. Roberson is back in the lineup for Kstate after having a broke hand I believe...

Roberson gives them something extra, is it enough?

Good win by the horns!!

I am a little nervous about next week.

It was a good win, but I was not impressed by the Horns at all. After watching that game I feel extremely confident that the Sooners will win as long as they play their game. OU is just a better football team than UT...let's just hope we play like it on Saturday!

Texas is the best team OU will have played so far. I mean other than Alabama in Alabama I hadn't noticed many tough games for OU yet. K State was the best team TX has played so far, Arkansas played better than Kstate, but I think if Texas played AR 10 times we would win 9 of them.

Anyway, it's PUT Up or SHUTUP time in BIG D...It is basically halfway between Austin and Norman, the field is half and half, and OU has won the last three...OU is a Great Team with Superb Coaching Staff, Texas will have their hands full.

It should be a close game decided by special teams & BIG PLays!

brown_and_young_001.jpg

I don't think it will even be close.

LS, you aren't really worried, you're just trying to be nice, aren't you?

Its better to be humble than over confident. . . thats the way Bob Stoops thinks.

Its all about focusing on one game at a time.

Oklahoma is playing the best football in the country right now. Texas is a good squad, but nothing is consistent and recent injuries may prevent progress.

Texas is a hungry team and wants some serious revenge.

I am still choosing Oklahoma to win this game.

Here is my final score:

Oklahoma 27 Texas 14

um OKIE, that is directed to you...

Swain, I, of course, respect Stoops and the Sooners...but I am sticking with Benson & Roy Williams and my beloved HORNS...
I am going to say 31 - 27 Texas over OU

OKIE, in case you did not hear me the first time:

WHo really knows? I would say Vince gives us the best chance to escape the OU Blitz packages. If you saw the Kstate game, they blitzed every which way but loose, and they pounded Chance Mock. Then we put in the sizzling sensation Vince Young and he ran around like a young Mike Vick. Young throws well on the run, and he throws a good deep ball. Not as accurate as Mock, but more explosive. If OU gets caught in a blitz on a QB Draw or perfectly timed option pass, we can put up some points.

I look to last year and OU lost 2 games, two teams that threw the ball deep (early and often)...Look for Texas to try to get some Run/Pass Balance and run some draws and WR screens to try and slow the blitz packs and then when the defenders get inside the hash marks we should go over the top...early and often.

This will be one hell of a game, it is bigger than Miami & FSU... It is the game of the week, Hands Down.

OKIE is straight up harsh lol.

Nah, it's all in good fun. I actually respect Texas for the most part. Now Mack Brown...that's a different story.

good stuff Okie
you have superior photoshop skills this is for sure
too bad photoshop has nothing to do with football

Bro, Oklahoma would have to win for 20 staright years just to win as many times as Texas has. Texas still owns this series 55-37...

TX owns OU 55wins 37 losses...

As afr as TX OU goes...

TX OWNS OU

Damn, I don't know what to say. I had no idea the Longhorns were so weak. I mean I had no idea the Sooners were that Strong. I am very impressed. Bob Stoops and his staff have very good talent and they are obviously the best coaches in College Football.

The way OU attacks the football and forces turnovers is uncanny and it is COACHED. The way they find a way to get a man in on a blitz is uncanny and it is COACHED -DC.
Obviously the way the offense is custom tailored to fit the talent at any given position is also coached and they have great talent with great coaches and they are SOLID.

They deserve to be number 1, they have the strongest team I have seen since OU won the Title in 2000. They are playing unreal and lights-out!!

I tip my hat to the Sooners and their Fans.

You should bring the Sears Trophy to Norman this year.

Kudos to whoever found Bob Stoops and brought hiim to Norman - THAT MAN DESERVES A RAISE.

Sooner Nation rocked Saturday, I have nothing else.

Texas is still a strong team, but the squad must develop a consistent offense. The defensive line needs to be strengthened. .they allow way too many points.

Secondly, I am a little disappointed with numerous Sooner fans. At the end of the game, these group of people still had the nerve to chant Texas sucks. . .Texas sucks. I am a huge fan, but that is totally uncalled for. . these people serve as bad examples of fans.

If the Sooners were blown out 65-13. . do you think there would be any Sooner fans left in the stands?? Hell no!

People need to learn how to be humble. . . anything can happen in college football.

65-13

You can have your overall record that goes back to before your parents were born. I'll take an 8th National Championship any day.

Yes, I can have the overall series record because we earned the series record...but I have to admit I would trade the overall record for Bob Stoops or a National Title.

They deserve to be #1, - the Sooners

Horns had a nice victory on Saturday.

Over the mighty Cyclones of Iowa State!

My prediction...Oklahoma State will beat the Longhorns in Stillwater this year. Mark it down.

shit, you wont hear me arguing anything for the Horns. I love them and I bleed orange, but it has been another disappointing year...I mean if we can just beat arkansas and then have a respectable game against OU I would be okay.

52 pooints is humiliation

and the Hogs should have had their ass handed to them in Austin

fire mack brown - maybe they should

WE want MIKE STOOPS if they do!!
.
FUCK OSU

Okie,

Nice pics!! I wouldn't say the program is a joke.

Not the program...just his year's team. Ok, joke may be a little strong, but losing to OU 65-13 is certainly laughable.

Yes, UT should get BCS Bid against Michigan or Ohio State.

A chance for Mack to beat a National Powerhouse and prove Texas is a National Powerhouse.

Good Luck to OU - They should dominate Kstate, and beat the stuffing out of LSU or USC.

I think Kstate will be harder for OU than the Title game.
