I copied a client on an inter-office email saying we should "make something up next time" in reguards to us misssing a deadline... The owners did not like that... The client however was barely phased... Is this a fire-able offense?? :) :)

no no... not make something up as in a deliverable... make up as in "tell them our server went down" type of thing...

lol

update... im their second most valuable producer in the company... i have a crazy history of performance etc... last performance review was 3 points away from being perfect... in my opinion, since the client reaction was pretty much nothing... this is not grounds for termination... but if it occurs i would think it is grounds for a lawsuit...

ahhhhhhh what if... :)

i'd never do that

i work in a very relaxed, informal environment. my boss is the coolest possible. he'd probably discourage that kind of thing, but he'd never in a million years fire someone for that.

that would be idiotic. unless you deserve termination for other reasons, of course.

however, i still wouldn't say something like that, even though i don't consider it a big deal.

but it depends on the tone set by your boss, the client, etc...

you felt comfortable saying that? do others joke like that in email where you work (clients specifically)?

no, it was an internal email that I sent to a co-worker who has a tendency to pawn off his work on others... Not to get too much into it, he has been on the chopping block for a while, and he attempted to throw me under the bus on a project mis-step which he called. I simply replyed to his email stating that if we miss a client deadline, we don't show our internal problems to the client (which he, in an email, did) so in my reply, I wrote that "Next time we shouldn't show our internal difficulties, it makes us look bad and gives her (the client) more of an incentive to complain about us. So next time lets say we had a technical meltdown.)

My tone wasn't harsh against the client, or crude in any way... It was basically just something she shouldnt have seen. I would never intentionally say something like that. (Also the client did not end up being offended, just jokingly surprised...)

The tone set by the company is ridiculous... My boss is a blatant verbal abuser and sexual harasser, his reputation is terrible, his work attitude and personality are completely unethical and politically incorrect... etc... he sends out porn to his employees degrades etc...

so I have tons of firepower if the day ever came... :)

i don't know why you'd call it an internal email, if a client is copied on it. as soon as someone outside the company can see it...is it really internal?

i agree with your sentiment, though. don't let people on the outside see those kinds of internal problems. but i wouldn't express that kind of sentiment in an email that a client can actually read.

the client was accidentally copied, it was never intended that she would read it. but legally, in terms or grounds for termination, i think they have nothing.

You compromised client relations, that's grounds for termination.

i dont think so. if the client perception was unfavorable. say they complained etc... then relations would have been compromised...

so what you are saying is that anyone who disagrees with a client, no matter what is "compromising client relations?"

what exactly is your definition of compromising client relations?

damn boy -- watch what you say in those emails! All my emails are brief, to the point, and very professional. This is the only place where i act like a little out of control baboon.

Compromising client relations is anything that might make the client unhappy.

Unless you work for a very chill place, you probably signed a contract which vaguely stated that you can be fired for anything, even farting in your own home on a Saturday afteroon.
