Who here doesn't?

I have a friend that has nearly 20,000 dollars in credit card debt..

I don't have excessive debt to my name

I dont either

I pay for most big purchases in cash except house and car

I want to borrow to buy new living room furniture though. The temptation is always there.

can i be 50 cent?

LOL, he won't let you get any CC's in your name? Very wise.
I'm invading your state 3 weeks from today, I'm el mucho stokied.
lol we have one credit card we use to funnel all the expenses to (reward points etc for using it) that is in both our names, then we pay the entire balance each month.

you're coming to MD?

I do.. Even less than

One car loan at a time with 2 vehicles.. We keep them 8 years
Less than $1000 total is ever due on all credit cards etc

Yep, gonna see granny for her 90th. Have you taken your little monster to Ocean City? That place is cool, I can't wait to do some boogie boarding and jet skiing.

I got a little credit card debt, probably around $1200. Once I get that paid off, I'll be debt free.

Now I just need to buy a house instead of renting.

the average american has $19,000 in credit card debt. . .i have zero. . .

I only have 1 cc and i pay it off every month.. It has a 1000 limit on it but never come close to it

I have a car payment and house payment

I owe about 3k in credit cards, 12k on my car (was 20k 2yrs ago) and 146k on my house but its worth almost 170k as is.

My GF got into credit card debt early in life and is still paying on them.

I'm glad she learned that lesson early on. She now is a very carefull spender/saver.

I never understood how people can rack up debt which in turn rapes them on interest and fees.

My rule is to never buy anything unless I can afford it out right. The exceptions being a house or car obviously or the occasional interest free promotional loans they offer on items.

It is a MUST. I always say it!
So many people run up bad credit and don't budget and get behind and it only gets worse. They are waiting for the 1st and 15th. No way to live. Set a budget and stick to it. It is hard but a must to get ahead. A bad credit score can kill you in the long run. Clean it up and take care of it. MY .02

ouch.. you didn't have medical insurance?

that can get so expensive..

People are wrong, no debt is not good either. You need to est debt and pay it down. Keep building up your score. No debt is almost as bad as bad debt. Trust me, I do this for a living with the bank.
People have great businesses but their personal side is a mess and we will not give them money. Sucks but thats life! You need so show you can pay befor we lend to you.
For those who have no debt, that great if you paid it off. Congrats! I ment people who don't even have any credit.

Oh no, I had medical insurance. It's just that I was sick for so long. Because I was so ill I lost my job so I was under cobra for a short time until other medical ins kicked in.

Note: Coventry sucks..lol

what did you have?

My credit score is just over 800. I worked my ass off to get it there and keep it. I only owe on my car and my wifes, my condo and my beach house. All good things to have on a credit report. Always pay ontime, never a late pay. I have 1 credit card which is paid off in full each month. I keep it for the miles (hotel stays, gas, food shopping, etc) and for an emergency. You never know! My wife has about 7k in debt from student loans.
It takes work but well worth it when you want to buy something, better rate!

Yeah I am real special. LMAO

yeah I am very lucky considering I was misdiagnosed for 6 months, and was told the pain was all in my head.
When I took myself to the ER for the last time because I could no longer breath. The Doctor did one blood test and found my lipase levels were 3682. They're only supposed to be between 100-300. So mine was about to burst.

Yeah I am 27. Not 19. :)

LMAO! now answer the question about the divisum.

From what I saw last week with everyone posting their bank accounts, paystubs, etc., how can you rich motherfuckers not live within your million dollar a year income means?

Credit card companies are a scam, and so is college, unless you're one of the exceptional. They often work hand in hand too, giving credit cards out to students whom they know need "money", so when the students finally graduate they have both massive student loans and credit card debt; unless they were fortunate enough to find a good part or even full time job during classes to help keep it down.
If credit card companies weren't crooked, they'd be more accurate as far as how much they'll let you borrow based on your income. Obviously they're letting people borrow too much if so many end up getting in over their heads, add-on interest rates, etc. Granted it's up to the person not to spend that much in the first place but in some cases many people don't have that luxury at a given stage in life.
I worked night shift almost full time during a year of school, part time otherwise and still have $20,000 student loans, $6,000 left of car payments, and an equal amount of CC debt. It's manageable but I still am a ways from having a career that I find both financially and personally satisfying. I never cared about the money as much as doing something I enjoyed getting up in the am for. Ironically the importance of money was preached to me all the while I was growing up too.

debt is a good thing if you can leverage it properly. if you can borrow money, and make more investing it then it's a no brainer. or if you run a business, get paid on commission, etc. its sometimes a good way to float yourself temporarily

I don't have any cc debt. I do have a car payment, student loans, and a house pmt, though.

The student loan one is the one that HURTS.

hallelujah!!!

I was preached to that education is the answer to everything. I had full tuition scholarships and worked PT, but in 7 years racked up tons of student loans because I had to have money to live on, for books, etc.

I may have been better off if my dad would have taught me how to be a business person first. Alas, though, he doesn't know either. He has always been an employee and did well working at Ford, but that is sacrificing your body for money.

I see these people on TV shows flipping houses and making 6 figures in 6 weeks. I nearly want to throw up. I should have learned to do that instead...lol.

I have zero CC..

I paid my last lease up front.

This lease I am paying payments on though, divorce is expensive.

Uh...how is college a scam? The point of graduating and being up to your asshole in debt is that you will find a better, higher paying job that will allow you to pay off your debt and make more money in the future.

Yup, having money certainly makes life easier lol. I wish I started up youtube or google. Wish wish wish, time to start doing.

I do it pretty well. Don't make much, don't need much. My "bullshit expenses" are controlled very well (i.e. drinking, eating out all the time, small little stuff like a daily soda, etc.). I have a few expenses that I can't necessarily afford (i.e. motorcycle) but they all directly correlate to my healthy happiness. So no worries here.

howd you do it. did you just decide that you wouldnt spend money on things that you didnt REALLY need? was it tough? i cant really do that as of now...spend a LOT of money on little things

Reread my post. It's still a scam for most, because it takes a very long time for most to pay the loans off, and you end up paying probably double the principle after interest charges are accounted for unless you can afford to pay it off soon. Very few people end up with the career they want after graduating. In the very long run, sure it's eventually worth it. It all depends.

it's weird, cause I grew up in a upper-middle class family. We had some loot most of my life. And my pops wasn't afraid to spend it on me and my sister. By all means I should be a spoiled little shit (like my sister). But for some reason, I learned the real lessons that pops was teaching us - hard motherfucking work, respect, taking care of important things with your loot. Not sure why, but I was never a big spender. Don't get me wrong, I'm not cheap and I have been known to spend money some places other people wouldn't (restaurants for one), but overall I just see the bigger picture quite clearly. It wasn't intentional, it's just the way I ended up.

i was like that until about 5 years ago.

had 30K in credit card debt.

started in college when I had zero money and just kept getting worse.

I knew I was going to be making serious money within a few years though so it never bothered me.

I paid it all off and now have a huge surplus.

how did you pay for college ?? grants or scholarships or out of your pocket?

One of the best ideas I've ever seen was this guy 2 years older than I.

After high school instead of going to college, he asked his parents if he could have the money they were going to give to him and he started his own business.

He opened a tanning bed place in a small, but growing town locally.

It was a success. He then kept that business then started his own pool, spa, & billiards store (selling & installing).

Last time I talked to him he started his own manufacturing company producting spas from raw materials.

He said he plans on selling it within 2 years and retiring.

He will be 35 yrs old and a multi-millionaire.

I owe on my house but did it in my dad's name because of the taxes I owe. I finally got the tax bill under $40K and hope to have it taken care of by the beginning of the year. I don't have any other payments other than cell, utilities, etc.

Most companies settle for a less outrageous amount.

Something like that. The first job I ever had outside of waiting tables turned out to be a really shady guy. I had no idea, blah, blah. Anyhoo, I had 2.5 years of making a lot of money, he told us taxes and everything were taken out of our checks, but he always gave us hand written ones. He also said he had a company accountant that would do all of our taxes each year. I left to a different company and never thought twice about it. Turned out he got busted for loan fraud and tax evasion and told the auditors he had 1099'd us all the whole time. So asshole was taking the taxes out when he paid us, pocketed them, and never filed for us. Then he said we never paid our taxes. So we all got fucked for the full amount of our commissions for 2+ years plus penalties, plus interest. My bill was $150K+ when I first started paying.

Good shit.

the real money is suing them...

then encouraging them to 'settle' with you out of court.

there are vultures that do nothing more than look for entities with big pockets - then sue them.

No. I pretty much exhausted my options. He covered his tracks pretty well. He ended up serving time for fraud, was heavily fined, lost his license, and had to pay a lot of back taxes.

Not really. They lowered the penalites, but after all was said and done, I hadn't paid taxes. That lesson was more expensive than college. The thing that blows is I make decent money and still drive this goddamn Subaru because I can't sell anything until the taxes are paid. I had to buy my house in my dad's name, so I can't write the interest off, blah, blah, blah. I think I'll buy something stupid once they're gone.
