liver function terrible

dark-knight

New member
yes my liver function is terrible and my lipid profile is also fkt as a result. Yes i have stopped drinking

went and got my bloodwork done as i was about to start a course
test cyp, deca, t3, with arimidex, nolvadex on hand and clen with pct
apparently my occasional binge drinking has caught up to me.
am going back to get retested in one month.

Can anyone tell me if there is anything i can do beyond the usual clean food and heeps of water to speed the healing up.

any advice would be appreciated

Got some blood work numbers you can share?

liver function 92

total cholesterol 4.7
triglycerides 4.8

hdl .74
ldl 2.26

thyroid stimulating hormone .05 mU/ L

testosterone 12nmol/L

all minerals and nutrients were excellent

other negatives were

Gamma G.T 83
ALT 75
AST 43

would liv 52 be a beneficial aid

How much does it cost to get work done for liver values? You don't need the full spectrum of blood work do you?

Sorry for the quick hijack; didn't deem it worthy of it's own thread.

I'm not familiar with those blood chemistry reference numbers.

Cholesterol Range is typically - 140 - 220 mg/dL ML
Trig. - 40 - 150 mg/dL ML
HDL - 40 - 65
LDL - 80 - 100
ALT(SGPT) - 21 - 73
AST(SGOT) - 17 - 60
No Bilirubin numbers
Etc, Etc. ????????????????????????????????????????????

Only in the US are those units used.

SGPT and SGOT are about 25 years out of date as well, no one else uses them.

More or less the rest of the world used the metric SI units.

You can google a clin conversion if you really need to have them in units you understand, I often convert the American units.

Besides your trig, your lipids are really not that bad.

Was that a fasting sample.

Your TSH is a bit low, as is your testosterone.

I am not familiar with what they are calling liver function 92, but your amino transferases are not terrible.

They also elevate at the drop of a hat. Seriously, coffee, a glass of wine, even just eating will have your ALT and GGT shoot through the roof.

What else did you have done?

Would you mind posting all the results, as things like liver function is looking for patterns, just one or two of the parameters is not a definitive diagnosis of anything.

Did you have a full blood count done?

Glad you dropped into this thread Tat as my thinking was same as yours. I think we need to know if was a fasting sample or not too as could make a difference. To assess how well your liver is actually functioning you need to know serum albumin, bilirubin and prothrombin time.

Sometimes we Americans (or at least me) forget that we are in a huge minority with our measuring system.

Glad you were able to help, Tat.

The units used are not important as the range in those units is given as:

ALT(SGPT) - 21 - 73
AST(SGOT) - 17 - 60

His numbers are pretty good on these 2, and if the liver is not functioning too well these numbers can easily be 5 or 6 times the normal top of the range.

I'd be interested in knowing the bilirubin to see if there is any bile blockage going on.

there was no fasting before the sample was taken. also went on bender weekend before/alot of weekends

I suspect this may have something to do with the elevated liver values althogh i don't believe the triglycerides would jump to that level overnight and certainly not my hdl ratio to the extent that it has

I take 5000mgs fish oil, standard multi and probiotics every day. I have just started taking milk thistle 21000mg p/day As i noted above i have cut out alcohol completely. Is there anything else i can do that would be effective???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

TRY the liver supplement SYNTHERGINE immediately..

thanks alin but synthergine not available to us aussies

ill look around and see if there are any similar products available here

The best thing you can do for your liver is to supplement with both rALA and N-Acetyl Cysteine. There is some very good research showing these two will not only protect your liver while it is under chemical stress but also regenerate liver cells.

there was no fasting before the sample was taken. also went on bender weekend before/alot of weekends

DOH!!!!!

Mate, your lipid profile is not really worth the paper it is written on unless you have fasted for 10 hours.

Well, it sort of is, as your cholesterol level is GREAT for a non-fasting sample.

Your trig is high because you have not fasted. What did you have for brekkie, or what had you eaten before the test, and how close was your last meal before the test.

I suspect this may have something to do with the elevated liver values althogh i don't believe the triglycerides would jump to that level overnight and certainly not my hdl ratio to the extent that it has

What do you mean overnight?

Trig is a measure of the fat being transported in the blood, normal is less than 3 mmol/l, and a meal can have it elevated quite a bit, so that is WHY WE NEVER DO A TRIG UNLESS THE PATIENT HAS FASTED FOR 10 HOURS. Black coffee and tea are fine, but even a splash of milk can have it alter.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLO

I am rarely cheeky, but I do have to call you a drama king.

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh, my liver is just RUINED even though I was out drinking all weekend.

The liver is remarkably resilient.

Why?

needto - for the suggestions synthergine, rALA and N-Acetyl Cysteine. for people taking the time to comment AND BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T TAKE THE PISS

THATS WHY!

needto - Not yet but i will be. reason i posted thread was for suggestions on ways to get my liver in check asap.
went and got bloodwork done as was about to begin a cycle. doc hit me with the bad news so giving myself a month (to show my liver some love) before getting tested again and fingers crossed, get the green light from the good doctor.

from what i'v been told in this thread the blood results are probably worthless considering there was no fasting and the fact that I whaled myself drinking three days prior (damn free piss on cruise boats) to blood being taken. to be on the safe side i will still take the next three weeks to detox and get retested.

ill post again after i get next test if im good to go and run my cycle by yall

They are not worthless.

Your cholesterol is really good for non fasting.

After a three day bender, your liver enzymes are great too.

I know it is a bit scary when you don't turn up as 'normal', but considering the circumstances, this does show you are doing quite well.

I hope this isn't hijacking too bad, but I just ran my liver tests a couple of times... Elevated both times (1 month apart), but the first time the AST was really high, and the second time the ALT was really high. I've been dealing with several years of shoulder pain and chronic migraines, which is probably the root of the problem (acetaminophen), but stopped taking painkillers a couple of months ago. Any takes on why the flip-flopping of elevated AST and ALT?

p.s. My first numbers were: AST- 111, ALT- 58 IU/L
Second set: AST- 44, ALT- 93

Any input is greatly appreciated!

A protime to assess liver values...???
A simple CMP will tell you where your liver values are. As to the original post in this thread and the values you posted for your liver, they are actually pretty good.
A protime is used to assess your bloodclotting factor. Blue top tube with sodium citrate, and it needs to be filled to the mark for an accurate result. The only time I ever seen anyone drawn for protime is people who are on coumadin, or if a doctor is doing a d-dimer to see if it is elavated, and indication for a PE, or blood clot.

Tat, or any of the other gurus... Any ideas?

TAT, would you recommend i get retested now and fast beforehand, or wait out the month as i originally intended?

It takes three months for any modifications you make in your diet and lifestyle to show up in your cholesterol.

This is the issue hun, you are stressing so much, what do you think would give you peace of mind?

Whatever you choose to do, getting bled again immediately (I did a week later when I had an abnormal creatinine), or wait for a month, just make sure that you haven't been drinking, taking any NSAIDs and that you have fasted for 10 hours.

Water, BLACK coffee or tea is fine, anything else, NO.

I am going to text my friend in the lab and get her to send me the reference for the paper on ALT elevations.

Your liver is a pretty amazing organ. Not only does it make the majority of the proteins in your blood that are used in the acute immune response, for transporting other nutrients and minerals around, most of the clotting factors, it is also the food processing and detoxification center in the body.

If the enzyme systems are overwhelmed with processing food or detoxifying substances, and this is even things like your old sex steroid hormones, the breakdown products of red blood cells (bilirubin), any medications, drugs........then some of the cells are going to die and leak out their enzymes.

Some of this turnover is natural, which is why you will have SOME of the liver enzymes in the blood.

The liver is remarkably resilient, it can take A LOT of abuse as long as you do not have any odd inborn error of metabolism, not that I am recommending abusing your liver.

This is the other issue, the reference ranges only include 95% of the population, and I am starting to have my suspicion that athletes need a different reference range.

Again, for peace of mind and to be certain, I would get tested again, but the bloods are only a part of the diagnosis of any disease.

If everything else is normal, and you have no clinical symptoms, your physical examination is good, then again, just to be responsible and for peace of mind have some follow up testing.

I think I am going to start a liver/liver function test thread in the medical section.
