Light Negatives ?

I read in the bench sticky that PL Jay and Arioch weren't big fans of negatives because of the recovery time. What about lighter negatives (ie adding 5-10 lbs more than your max and doing 1-3 negatives on it)? Would it help progression or is it more or less pointless?

too much trauma to the muscle. takes that much longer to recover.

from experience it does give you a quick boost in strength if you have been training in the 8-12 rep range a lot. those of us doing lots of singles and triples will see no benefit.

as a long term strategy it is not productive.
