Life expectancy for people newly infected with HIV?

tical

I'm curious as to what the life expectancy is these days for someone that just got infected and diagnosed.

I'm aware that AIDS can develop (or not) at different times depending on who is infected but is drug therapy really so far ahead that a high % of HIV infected patients never develop AIDS (that is if they do what they're supposed to)?

Just wondering how much of a "death sentence" getting infected with HIV really is today in the US.

OK. I'll take this on. Without taking meds and not ruining your body with rec drugs, from initional infection with HIV to 'full blown' AIDS is about ten years. Magic johnson got about that amount of time. There are some people who do coke or meth that advance very fast, and there are other people that almost don't advance at all. Blood monoring on a bi-monthly basis is a good idea. Thanks! Alan. :rainbow:

I agree with you Alan....I would also like to add that everyone is completly different when it comes to how their body will react to HIV infection. I would say that it would be difficult to give an exact number for a person life span....postive outlook on a persons life will greatly improves one's chance for living longer . I have been postive for over 13 years....I take very good care of my body.
It is the only one that I have afterall....so why dirty it up!!!!!

you contracted it around 1983-84 and have been on meds from 1986 on consider your self very lucky to have been tested and not waited untill 1988-1989 to find out and get on drugs to help stop the virus.
I think your catching it in the first 2 years gave you a big jump on it then waiting 5 years to f find out.
i give you props for being tested back in 1986 not alot of people would admit to it or even consider they had cuaght the ninja way back then.you were the first wave from 1981-1985 most of those guys dropped like flies due to lack of comming forward and just being plain out scared of it most infected with grid were dead with in 5 years.

From what I have heard from talking to gays is the "second round wave" guys to catch it around 1990 to 1995 seem to be falling ill and they are at the 13-15 mark
so i can suspect the guys (and gals) that have contracted it from 2000+ and on with proper medical attention with the advancement of drugs could live longer then 20years in the near future.

I'm very saddend by the whole thing a close friend of my fiance has full blown aids age 47 now he contracted hiv back in 1992 is now falling ill the drugs are taking its toll he sold his house and moved away to the north part of town, stopped comming outside and doing the public gatherings,he had his stomach lipoed in a attempt to remove some of the bloat, had his face lifted and injections under his eyes to help get ride of the sunken in look.He was a very nice person and great guy all around in genera.l I meet him back in 2001 when i met my girlfiend through her but to see him now a recluse really that wont even come outside is very hardning on the soul and makes me think over how a good god could do such a horrible thing to such nice people.Of all things he contracted HIV through tainted blood after a car wreck and was notified 3 years later about it.

This is tragic
