Life Changing Diagnosis

Ive joined an ALS board and they are helping me alot. Seems like there is alot of hope in the area of stem cell. Many people have had it done and recieved amazing results.

Before you start accepting that your life is over at 24 I would pick my ass up and haul my ass to the BIGGEST, baddest ass medical facility you can get to, if you have to go outside your insurance, DO IT! I don't think the doctors know what's wrong with you.

Don't accept a diagnosis of ALS with less than two independent neurological opinions (frankly, I'd say get three), at least ONE should be coming from a recognized specialist/expert in neuromuscular degenerative disorders.

Musclemom, your right. One of my good friends was diagnosed with cancer and it turned out to be mono. I hope that it is something else. Going to go see Nero number 2 in 45 mins. If this doc agrees than im off to neuro 3.

I really wish you the best.

... and think about contacting a big time hospital, some place like Johns Hopkins or Harvard ... you want cutting edge, top of the line facilities. You might have to spend a couple of days in the hospital for a full battery of studies.

Tests are all out of the way for the other neuro, so i'll be going back to his office on monday. I like this guy he is keeping me optimistic. He told me to make sure that "Ill let them do the worrying." I'm feelin really good today!:)

Hey Mav, Thanks for your reply... I can relate to you on that one... sometimes Ill get angry bout something but than you just gotta realize that it really doesnt matter. Just be grateful for the ones you love cuz when you need them theyll be there for you!

Great idea about speaking to others. Again at this point you don't know what your status is and I agree 10 years from now this disease will most likely be a thing of the past.

Especially with all the research involved in ALS that is funded by baseball players charities and others.

BTW that sounds like a cool doctor you have. I like his attitude.

Rupe, I had my girlfriend read what you wrote b/c of how much it moved me, "he seems like a very special person", she says.:) Anywyas my new neuro is a younger guy and we hit it off really well. He is very concerned but optimistic at the same time, I truely believe he cares. Great guy.

Well I was suppose to go in on monday but my doc had an emergency and the nurse said he'll call me. Well yesterday night I got a message from the nurse saying that I need to go in this afternoon... Keepin my fingers crossed.
