yeah the 1st amendment guarantees them the freedom to do a very stupid thing. but local municipalities should pass laws keeping protestors away from all funerals. say 200 feet. this would be the best solution.

I'm a huge freedoms guy.

But there were two other issues here.

1) Staging a protest or demonstration solely to cause someone else grief shouldn't be protected.

2) That dead solder wasn't a public figure. They had no business singling him out.


I don't like fatties. But that still doesn't give me the right to single-out one randomly obese person and scream obscenities at them (even at a distance) anytime they walk in public.

200 feet won't stop the bereaved seeing signs saying, "Thank God for Dead Soldiers!" and "More Dead Soldiers" in block letters along the cemetery route.
