okay, so my man has decided to go al natural on me...foodwise I mean :qt: he read this book on all the chems in our food these days (yes he knew about them before but this book put a bee under his butt for some reason) anyway, we have been shopping at our local organic co-op and just ran into a corp owned place called new seasons...anyone heard of it? any sugestions on what to stay away from? what will satisfy that sugar craving? how to make the rice not taste like paste? :p

Definitley invest in a good rice cooker - it makes brown rice soft and fluffy. Your organic food store will have organic chicken stock that you can cook your rice in - it adds protien with little calories and makes it taste yummy.

You probably already know that the healthier you eat - especially if going organic - the more money you will spend. I shop at an organic market called "New Frontiers". I am very impressed with organic meat and seafood. While it's a little more pricey - you CAN tell the difference in quality from meat bought at a supermarket. Especially the chicken and salmon. No hormones, steroids or artificial coloring added. I also like to buy natty peanut butter there. My store has a big peanut grinder and you can make your own peanut butter in the quantity that you like.

yeah, I have noticed that the beter the quality the higher the price, but we don't mind paying more for beter results. I will pick up a rice cooker the next chance I get, thanx for the tip. we found keetle roasted hazelnut butter our last visit to the co-op yum yum! (oh, and we are thinking about getting a rabbit to eat all the green leafy stuff that comes with all the fresh vegies ...ie. carrots etc)

Get a pet pig. They lover all that stuff. My mom has a pot belly. :)

I've read somewhere that hemp oil is really, really good for you - better than flax oil. Another good oil is macadamia.

Brown basmati rice is good. Doesn't get all gummy like short grain does and it tastes pretty good. I saute onions and garlic in a non-stick pan then add in the cooked rice. Good. Like a pilaf. Try doing it with veggies you like.

Hemp seed is really the only edible part of hemp. Ground hemp can be used in the same way that flax is. Same for the oil.

Am I right that it is exceptionally good for you? (I think I read that it was somewhere her on EF) My problem is that I've never seen it in a health food store. Where does on buy hemp seed?

good question...any answers?

Note on the brown basmati rice...shop around. I've found some bb rice that is absolutely terrible. Some of the damn husks or something remain in the mix and even after cooking they're hard, and scrape your gums up. I have found some brands that are good and stick to them now. Never any husks in them. Lundberg, and Green Meadows (???) are the ones I use.

As for hemp oil. If you order it make sure it's origin is IN the united states or it may not get throught the border. There was an issue a while back with the DEA restricting non THC related hemp product imports. It hurt a local exporter around my home cause he was shipping to the states. His THC content was tested at .001 percent which is about how much THC I have on the bottom of my shoe. The link that was provided looks like it comes out of New York. But keep that in mind. Same goes for hemp soaps, creams, cloths, etc. (unless things have changed recently).

Nutiva makes hemp seed bars and hemp protein. I don't think I have ever seen loose, bulk or packaged plain hemp seed before, now that you mention it. haven't looked either, though.

Protein factory has hemp oil and haemp protein powder. I've been reading about hemp protein powder in Oxygen magazine and understand that is far superior to whey. I'm gonna get some.

remember to always keep checking threads. I posted a link to it yesterday morning, would've saved you some searching. :)
