All this pissing and moaning about the world being a terrible place and that there is no God makes you seem like one of those screwed up and annoying little emo kids or like an angry, angst filled teenager who sits in his room and doodles on skulls on his notebook while listening to some underground angry music du jour. LOL.

How old are you again? :worried:

I disagree Heather. Those are his true feelings. He is being real. And he may be right.

All your support of religion makes you seem like one of those little girls that just LOVED Christmas and that annual visit from Santa Claus. The only thing that came close to matching that was when the Tooth Fairy came down at night and left a quarter under your pillow. But luckily in the spring there was a bunny that hid colored eggs around your yard for you.

LUCKILY for you, we were able to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that those were just stories your parents told you. Much like religion now is for you, but due to the importance that has been placed on it you can't seem to let go.

Once you find it within yourself to free your mind from the chains of dogma, you won't find me nearly as annoying anymore, I promise.

What's wrong? Did your parents beat the shit out of you growing up? You didn't get Christmas? LOL. From your pictures, you appear to be an upper middle class white yuppie, so where is all this angst coming from? LOL. Oh, life is so tough for lestat that he must harp on endlessly about how there is no God, and if there is a God, he is a bastard...yada yada. It is just like those bored little middle class kids who never tasted any real trauma in life so they piss and moan about this and that. Get a new topic, buddy, you are getting boring.

I really like you, but I'm not gonna kiss anyone's ass. I disagree with you here, he has a right to speak his opinion and if it offends, people don't have to read it.

well i must say, its refreshing to see you finally touch on a topic other than religion, you must have realized you don't have much of a leg to stand on there when arguing with someone to holds to a more rational school of though.

I love how you could tell exactly how much money my family made by looking at recent pictures of me. Now THAT is a talent that god must have bestowed upon you, and I might have actually believed in a god had you have been close to accurate.

I grew up in a lower middle class family of 5. my father worked as an LVN for most of my childhood and was supporting the family on a salary of around 25,000 per year through the 80s and 90s. My mom never worked as my dad felt it was his duty to provide to the family. As the bible taught, the woman was to be subserviant, which I am sure you agree with right seeing as you are a religious kook. Are you allowed to speak in church, can you enter the church with your head uncovered? My mother couldn't.

Through no choice of my own, my childhood revolved around religion. You know that feeling you get when you finally learn that Santa Claus doesn't exist and it was just your parents pulling a scam on you? I don't, we had Christmas, but the presents were from my parents (by the grace of god of course). But back to that feeling of betrayal and Santa. Imagine that same feeling magnified by 1,000,000. Imagine being told that if you did certain things you were guarenteed an eternal life in paradise. In a place where milk and honey flowed as rivers, where the streets were paved in gold, and you got to sing praises to god 24 hours a day (who the FUCK thinks that is paradise??). Anyway, you also are told that if you DON'T do certain things, you will spend ETERNITY in flames, buring but never dying, ever!

Any then one day, much like with the Santa Claus story, you realize it was all bullshit, you trusted people to teach you truth, but instead they taught you things that they "THINK" is true, but can never be 100% certain about.

There is where you find me :)

Nobody on here has tried to convert you have they? Do I come on here daily and call you stupid for being an atheist? Nope. You call believers idiots day in and day out. Let it go. No one is trying to shove religion down your throat. You are trying to shove your lack of faith down ours.

He won't be able to bra. He's a true believer, and he needs to sporead his faith.

He needs the validation of others agreement through ridicule to feel confident in his choices.

I predicted that if the bible stuff turned out to be really true, Lestat would be the most devout Christian on the board. Who knows? I don't know.

Well, I was raised Baptist and was taught that some things are sins, which will land your soul in hell. I was also taught about heaven. I was a chemistry/psych double major in college and the study of the sciences made me refute my belief in God for a time. I studied several different religions and experienced something that renewed my faith in God. I don't believe your parents were 100% correct in their beliefs, but we, as human beings, can only do the best that we can do. why are you so angry at them and at christians? Even when I was an atheist, I didn't Christian bash. What is the point? Why are you so invested in forcing your viewpoint on us? It comes across that to do so makes you feel intellectually superior. You call people idiots for having faith.

In my opinion, you sound like you are searching for some faith of your own. Something is definitely eating at you.

i can't possibly comment on what exactly you believe, but two of the "unhealthy" effects that I attritube to Christianity are:

1) painting all homosexuals as immoral sinful people
2) the active pursuit of legistlation that will block potentiall life saving stem cell research
3) the idea that the woman is to place a specific gender role within society

makes your brand of whatever it is you believe more palatable, but i'd say its pretty much impossible to be pro gay and believe the bible. Didn't god rain down fire and brimstone on a town full of homos (sodom and gomorah!)

lestat, i think i told you once before that I believe that those are allegories.

I may be some sort of new age Christian but I don't get into the fire and brimstone things. I think god is the embodiment and source of love, which is an energy. my religious focus is on cultivating love in ones self and in the world. It is extremely simple and doesn't involve all the judgmental crap that many people ascribe to religion.

Hey HR, what was it that renewed your faith in God? I'm curious of this b/c I'm alot like Lestat in my beliefs. I don't think Lestat is an atheist though. I believe he's agnostic as I am. I'm very spiritual I feel but not sure which type of religion suits me. I to was brought up in a baptist church. But I couldn't understand the scare tactics they would teach you. I had this argument the other day w/ a close friend that basically told me I could be a christian but if I didn't accept jesus as my personal savior I would burn in hell forever. WTF? It doesn't matter how good of a person you are or how much good you do for others. Either you believe completely w/ blind faith or to hell you go. Sorry but I can't buy that. So this got me to reading other things such as Buddhism, Taoism, and American Indian religion. I desperately want to believe in something b/c I do believe in some type of creator. There is too much beauty in us and nature on this world for it to have just happened by a big bang. But all of the super natural things they speak of in church is real hard to swallow. Moses parting the red sea, Noah and all of the animals, god speaking to people, and so on. Why doesn't this happen taday? If it did, it would be much more palatable. Why go on nothing but blind faith? Not bashing here, I just want some concrete answers. If I could get that then I would become a model christian for sure. I guess for now I'll keep searching.

he probably read Sam Harris' book last month. He does come off a bit over-zealous, but I agree with biteme that Lestat has a right to express his beliefs here or anywhere and yes, people are likely to get offended but people get offended when the wind blows LOL I dont even necessarily disagree with Lestat's views on organized religion, etc- but his communication skills leave a lot to be desired. In other words, he is trying to get people to open their minds and think outside the box or move out of their comfort zone, but you cant expect that to happen if you are degrading and insulting people.

that said, why dont people just ignore him?

The thing i never got was easter.. Bunnies dont lay eggs, wtf is going on?

Here ya go hunny-bunny:

OSTARA (pronounced O-STAR-ah) is one of the Lesser Wiccan Sabbats, and is usually celebrated on the Vernal or Spring Equinox right around March 21 (although because of its origins, may instead be celebrated on the fixed date of March 25). Other names by which this Sabbat may be known are Oestara, Eostre's Day, Rite of Eostre, Alban Eilir, Festival of the Trees, and Lady Day. The Christian holiday of Easter is very near this same time, (notice the similarity in name?), and is determined as the first Sunday after the first Full Moon after the Vernal Equinox.

The name for this Sabbat actually comes from that of the Teutonic lunar Goddess, Eostre. Her chief symbols were the bunny (for fertility and because the Ancient Ones who worshipped her often saw the image of a rabbit in the full moon), and the egg (representing the cosmic egg of creation). This is where the customs of "Easter Eggs" and the "Easter Bunny" originated.

Long story short, Christians usurped MOST of the pagan holidays and grafted the Christian ones onto them, calandar wise, so they could get the people to worship easier.

Winter Solstice became Christmas.
Samhain became Halloween.
Ostara became Easter.
Beltane became May Day.
And most of the harvest festivals started getting dropped and forgotten and we became a more mechanized society.

Bunnies and eggs ain't got SHIT to do with Christianity, any more than evergreen trees and gift giving and mistletoe has squat to do with some mythical virigin birth, any more than carving lanterns, dressing up and giving food out to strangers on November Eve is in ANY way associated with ANY patriarichal religion -- ALL that shit is pure paganism/Goddess worship, baby :qt:

For the record, I believe in lestats right to piss and moan about God on every thread for a week, too. However, I also believe in my right to call him out on the fact that he's been pummeling the carcass of that horse for too long now. I like lestat, but his constant haranguing of Christians is OLD.

When my mother was dying of cancer I asked for a specific sign from God and he revealed it to me. Of course, the atheists will say that I'm mentally ill, but that is what happened. There IS a God Cranny. =-)

It wasn't a city of just homo's, it was a city full of people acting immorally in a bunch of ways, including promiscuity. And you make more gay jokes on this site than anyone, aside from picklancebass'pantiesupoffthefloor.

Stem cell research and the other shit are newer than when man wrote the bible. I'm not religious, I have no faith. But you flipping shit and judge people for what they believe is the same as them judging you for what you don't. You can't disprove what they can't prove. The more you go on like this, the more you sound like curling or aap. Although you tend to express your point better than aap with his retarded,"You better enjoy hell." That shit's just dumb.

I'm not angry at them at all! I love them and can see how they, and almost anyone else would fall into the snare of religion.

I mean look at history, I can't find some major society or civilization that DID NOT have religion! The thing is, Christianity wasn't always the flavor of the month, which is what shows me that its really all interchangable and a lot of the stories and lessons are identical anyway.

My parents, god bless them, they did what they thought was right. They subscribed to a belief that brought them happiness and that they thought was the best for themselves and their family.

But I'm old enough now to realize how naieve and short sighted it all is.

My dad and mom both believe homosexuality is a sin, so is sex before marriage, etc.

They also think that "black people make crime rates go up" so that kind of shows you the world that they live in. Its tough to fault them for it, because if you did you'd be faulting more than half of this nation I'd suspect.

When my mother was dying of cancer I asked for a specific sign from God and he revealed it to me. Of course, the atheists will say that I'm mentally ill, but that is what happened. There IS a God Cranny. =-)

No, it was pretty remarkable. Can't just dismiss it as mere coincidence.

the comment that my parents make about black people is not based in any sort of religious ideology, I posted it simple as an example of the type of people they are. Saying "black people make crime rates go up" is a false correlation. Its no wonder they are able to attribute high and low times in their life to acts of god.

It seems HR has somewhat of a closed-mind. Or maybe just stubborn. Are you part Italian?

I haven't really noticed much of his angst though. I must not be here enough.

Nobody on here has tried to convert you have they? Do I come on here daily and call you stupid for being an atheist? Nope. You call believers idiots day in and day out. Let it go. No one is trying to shove religion down your throat. You are trying to shove your lack of faith down ours.

I see what's going on here now. I didn't think it was that prevalent though on the boards here. He's using C&C as an outlet for all the shit that's bothering him. It's easy to just ignore the threads if you don't like them too. It's not like school where you have to sit and listen or fail, lol.

I was just a little pissy that night at getting on CC and the whole front page was filled with dumb sacreligious threads. No, lestat didnt start them that night, but he had been haranfuing christians for a long time. So, I told him was acting like an angst filled teen. It doesn't mean I don't think he can post or should post. It doesn't mean I don't like him. I just didn't like his threads on the same topic every day.

Oh, and by the way, it sounds like his real issues with Christians is because he thinks they are all like his parents, and his parents were pretty backwards. I feel bad for him in that regard.
