Legs

Just curious as to how everyone mixes leg work-outs and cardio when on during a week. I want to still work on leg gains and still be able to do cardio 4-5 times a week. Is it even possible without overtraining them and still not cheating yourself on cardio? Just looking for other ideas.

If time were not an issue, it would not be a problem, I tend to always let the cardio slide, but legs, I will do religiously twice a week.

Front Squats always then I mix it up, only spend about 45 minutes per session twice a week on legs,

Also I always go as heavy as I can on squats, no other rule, just do something different each time. Also I do calves on the same day as legs.

Both at least twice a week.

I just follow my regular leg routine when "on" as I do when off, just increase number of sets. The cardio varies depending on if I am trying to gain or cut up.

i do no cardio the day befor legs... leg day i do the most intense cardio possible either bike or stepmill (after leg workout of course) im usualy tired from squats and can only squeeze out so much... the day after legs i take off... other days cardio as usual...

Seriously, though, this is a conditioning aspect not an either/or problem. If in doubt, start conservatively and work up. I've found doing full body stuff like clean cardio or complexes more usefull than treadmill/bike stuff. It also spreads the impact out over your entire mass rather than having your legs take the brunt. Check out the Cardio section in the training info sticky (Weightlifting Forum) for some good links.

Be careful you aren't overtraining your legs on Leg day. Just do ATF squats and one other exercise like SLDL or Good Mornings or even heavy lunges - all the leg extentions and leg curls are nonsense IMO and are just party to DOMS and not to any real strength gain or muscle growth.

I agree w/ fortunatesun on cardio. They clean cardio or The Bear or some variation of them and see what you think. I personally squat 3x a week - back squats 2x a week and fronts or overheads 1x so I prefer cardio that is not reliant 100% on my legs..... or low intensity walking up hill for an hour always works.

Great words of advice from a wise man.

Low Intensity, Steep incline treadmill is what i do after an intense leg day..it actually helps stretch them ..or keep the blood moving imo.

be careful while doing cardio - just coz your on, doesn't mean your knees (especially) can't take a pounding on the treadmill which will affect your leg workouts/squats. also, a good cardio exercise which is relatively easier on the knees - high rep deads... beats the crap out of you. some other good stuff too posted in the training vault sticky in the training forum... i wonder how many of you juicers have ventured into the training forum - bodybuilding used to be about training in the old days, eating was a forgone conclusion and the rest followed.

I am glad to hear you say this as I have gotten away from all kinds of accessory excercises for my legs and am just doing squats with sldl from time to time. I squat twice a week, box squats exclusivly and am loving how much more solid and strong my legs feel. It is really a nice change of pace from all the other crap. I do admit needing to add some front squats into the mix more. But, I am also trying to lose some BF currently so the cardio is top priority. Bump for more replies, good thread.

i just dont do cardio the day i do legs...
if you are worried, dont train them the day before and the same day that you workout legs
