Legs DO Matter!!!!

Sorry boys but I need to do some serious venting.

I am really sick of all the people AND the posts on this board where people are saying "oh well, legs don't matter". Well in my opinion LEGS DO MATTER.

Do you know how ridiculous a person looks JACKED with no legs? What are you gonna do live with pants on the rest of your life? I'm not trying to purposely piss off the top heavies but I am really gettin sick and tired of the cocky posts and the guys at my gym walkin around like they work harder than me.

I work my quads, hams, and calves all separate. That's THREE workouts a week practically. I'd be WAY bigger if I could dedicate three more workouts to my upper body. It's all about size(I have to agree!) but with keeping SOME symmetry in mind. I kill my legs and I still catch myself thinking "I better kick my legs in gear this week they look like there lagging".

I love when people post pics. That is one of the best features of this board. And everyone that I have seen so far looks AWESOME. BUT my own personal rule of judgement is if legs aren't posted with it then I can't truly be impressed.

Now I am not saying I am the shit. Don't get me wrong. But I can only take so much of the "Hey look at my arms". I swear for some EVERYDAY is arm day.

just my opinion.

You agree, disagree, hate me etc...
Let's hear it boys!

America is a bench/arm ruled country.

However the best test of functional strength tends to be the deadlift. I'd rate squat 2nd followed by the olympic movements and assistance exericises then eventually the bench.

To be honest, I train full body lifts so much that the bench is a break for me. It feels like a light compound exercise that hardly makes me sweat.

TRUE I love deadlifts. I am not saying the squat is the compound exercise of all exercises but it needs to get done.

I agree 100%. There are so many guys at my gym with great upper bodies and NO LEGS. Guess what.... YOU GUYS LOOK RIDICULOUS.

Another thing for all the no legs out there..... they walk around the gym in their tank tops and genie pants (even in the summer) and act like they are the shit....but in the back of their minds they now they are not.

They would probably find that if they worked legs that everything else would grow as well.

I just do not understand....why would you not work legs?

I LOVE IT. LET'S HEAR IT BOYS.

True about the pants :). If they didn't know they would wear shorts right? BUT they DO know. And are embarassed about it.

People who don't train legs are just pussies who cannot stand pain or hard work.
Fact: Legs are the most gruelling bodypart to train as they consist of the largest muscle groups.

Another thought - ever see one of those arm/chest guys juice and build up with no back or legs? They lose it all so fast.

The body does not wish to exist out of proportion which is also why natural trainers stop gaining real quick from all the bench and arm work if they don't focus on the rest of their body.

Then all you here is "I'm plateaued at my natural limit and need to use drugs. My training is perfect as I used to make gains when I started training 6 months ago."

I heard it's a combination of all the blood that goes to legs and that there is a different hormone release when legs are killed. That's why you feel like shit and puke. Is the hormone thing true?

I have heard that working your legs does effect your hormones. I am not sure if this has merit but that is what I have heard....there is no soreness like coming off of a heavy squat or sled session. Also stiff leg dead lifts will get them nice and sore also....makes it hard to sit.

It's not just legs - it's heavy and intense exercise that elevates test & gh.

Squats and DL's being the heaviest and most intense stimulus on the body elicit the most response.

Bench does it to a degree but doesn't come close to approaching the others. That's why if you aren't doing full body lifts you are shortchanging yourself both naturally and while on-cycle as it's all a stimulus/response (roids enhance response and to a degree stimulate CNS allowing enhanced stimulus from training harder).

Good Info....Thanks!!:)

I understand it is the acid build up that makes you sick, I could be wrong as I remeber reading about from a post in this board. I have also heard about the hormone increase from intense squats. But I got a back injury from doing squats, hurts like hell in my lower back and down my right leg after doing squats (pinched nerve?). Can I get the same effects from other excersie's ? (like leg press, hack squat, smith etc.)

How long have you had it? If not long then wait it out a little and see. No sense injuring yourself more. If it's been awhile then the only way to find out about those exercises is to try them and see if you have pain. If no then give er!
Keep your back as straight as possible.

Yeah, the gh/test thing is true. Not just for legs - but the more straing/intensity the better as mentioned above.

It's just that SQUATS are the one exercise that beats out all others for inducing higher test/gh levels.

Been only two weeks since I did squats last. Last week I just did leg press, leg extention and that silly butt machine, though silly I must have looked - that thing works:D . That was a paultry work out though. I am going to do legs the same tomorrow and try squats again next week. Thanks, I know I prolly bent the wrong way somehow. I never thought of splitting quads and hams to different days, that I will try to do. I do calves on a seperate day, sometimes twice a week.

People need to rember your upper body won't get any bigger with out lifting legs or stronger for that matter legs and abs are your core strong core strong body;)

Oh yeah, there are a lot of these guys strutting around in my gym in their wife beaters and long pants.

I guess that explains why there is never any problem getting a free squat rack, but you need to wait around half an hour for a preacher bench.

It also explains why I'm waiting in line behind the scale and I look over at this guy's weight... because he looks pretty strong I'm thinking 180-190, and it comes up like 143 lbs. It's like WTF!??

And finally it explains why most of these skinny legless punks have no trouble buying pants that fit, but me and my big ass need a 33-34" waist to be comfortable. Now I get it! They make clothes to fit THOSE GUYS.

well if you are a male model like myself you dont do legs cause you need to fit into the pants j/k. my favorite exercise has got to be deadlift, then squats, everything else is secondary

Legs Set the Men Apart from the Boys

LEGS, LEGS and more LEGS. My coach in H.S. (a long time ago) always said to work your legs because you don't want to wear bluejeans to the beach. The guys wearing pants in the middle of the summer in a 100 degree gym look ridculous. They are all arms and no legs -I call them UBB's - short for upper bodybuilders. Bump for the legs and no bump for the UBB's!!!!!!!!!:smash:

hey mor123..

WHY are you talking shit about me??????....LMAO...my legs SUCK....i have a hard time getting size on them because my knees are so jacked up from years of martial arts.....my arms on the other hand grow like weeds........

im a mess:bawling:

I read in an article once that the body likes to keep some degree of symetry.
the question asked was "my upperbody is at a sticking point......how do i make it grow"........the answer was train your lower half!
dont know how true that is...............but its something to think about.

Ha i went on holidays last year. at the beach i was with friends from another state......there were guys wearing jeans......with track suit pants underneath in the 42 degree celsius summer

Hell yes they matter and not just for symetrical purposes!! Your leg muscles are the largest muscles in your body and they hold more testostrone then any other muscle in your body. Therefore when you work your legs it causes your test levels to rise.

Got the info from my PT!

There was an article in like the 2nd or 3rd issue of Pump Magazine titled "How to Squat for Big Arms." It is an excellent article. I would post it except I can't seem to find it at the moment.

I guess I'm what you'd call a convert. Sure I use to do legs all the time but it was only with the leg press and extensions. There were more than enough rumours going around that squats and dead were bad for the back and knees (which I had lots of problems with) so I never did them. Needless to say I found out my knee problems came from the leg extensions. Go figure.

Now I have started doing squats and straight legged deadlifts and I love them......well the deads anyways :) I still find it amazing how few people in the gym actually do squats and/or deads with deads being the rarest. Hell, I have been to the 2 biggest gyms in my town and have only seen 2 people actually do deads and they were training partners.

I will admit to my upper body being ahead of my lower but I'm aiming to fix that if it kills me. And some days it almost feels like I did ;)

yo some have said to me that "My legs just aren't genetically there". Hell my Chest and Tris give me a hard time and yes my hams lack somewhat but that doesn't mean I don't give them hell everytime I train them or to stop training them. Genetics can make it harder or easier to build up certain bodyparts, it doesn't make it IMPOSSIBLE.

It's refreshing to see so many with these same views. Keep it up boys.
