An average wage for a middle-class Thai is 175-300 dollars a month.

Sonicmonkey: On the wage thing, depends on where you are talking about. In the rural areas the people make shit. Most don't have jobs and the ones who do might make $100.00 per month. OTOH, a low skilled office worker in bangkok might make $250.00 per month. If you show up for a 3 week visit with $3,000 in your pocket you will be king for a while. No experience like a visit to thailand IMO.
