Leg Press PR :)

Well i hit the legs up tonite on the leg press, i was feeling rather pumped

so i started with my normal warmup routine of adding plates and doing a couple reps to get adjusted to the weight. So i kept adding and adding...

eventually i ended up with 18 plates:D which is 820lbs plus the sled which i guess is ~ 40lbs so thats

~860 lbs!!!!!

I had a couple highschool guys spotting me and watching to make sure i use good form and go down far enough. I got one somewhat easily, i believe i could have gotten a second.

I then dropped it to ~820 and got 6

I had never really maxed on leg press before, and it was VERY intimidating looking at 18 plates and having everybody watch me.

by the way i way a meager 174lbs... is that good poundage for my weight?? i really don't know

thanks guys

lol not near as much, oddly enough my squat sucks, i haven't maxed on it but i get 315 or more for 8 reps

Hard to compare numbers on the leg press because every machine is different.

Good job on the PR...

Just a thought though...you would get more out of squatting a super light weight than you would leg pressing a super heavy weight...IMO.

I agree 100%. Wise words.

Nice weight! My best is 16 plates (765 ??) for 52 reps and 24 plates for maybe 15. Its always hard to determine range too, I can only go down so far before my thighs are pushing into my ribs.
When I did them Id usually stick my head out a bit and touch my knees to my forehead, I got strong on them cuz that was all I did for legs. And I puked everytime. Now I just deadlift instead haha

thanks for the input guys... btw i alternate between squats and legpress so i get the best of both worlds. I just need to get my squat weight up there

i think the best thing you can do on the leg press is drops

start with those 18 plates, burn your 6 reps then have a couple guys pull one plate from each side go for 10 reps, pull a plate from each side again, ect, ect

you will yak if you have the gumption to finish it, but it will help you grow (maybe more as a man then in your quads)

this should be done very sparingly though, cause it will take a long time to recover

Many trainers feel that the leg press is totally worthless. . they couldn't be more incorrect.

Leg presses are excellent for building the quads. . I call it an isolation move.

Comparing the squat to the leg press is like comparing apples to oranges. . two different movements.

I say this because the squat builds core strength and the leg press is a muscle developer.

With this said, I like to get the best of both worlds. . both strength and size.

Never ever let people tell you the leg press is worthless.

Remember folks. . .not everyone is a strongman or powerlifter. . people are actually interested in building their physique as well.
