leg press magic?

if i do squats and leg presses in the same day, i had always done squats first, then leg presses. tonight, some asshole was doing shrugs in the power rack, so i did leg presses first. went pretty heavy, 6-8 reps. after 3 sets, i went onto squats. i did 1 warmup set, and put on the big pundages. wtf?!?!?!?!! it was soo light. in what i usually can do 10 reps, i was doing 18-20. unbelievable. i know i haven't gotten that much stronger in 4 days. next time i go in, im going for the PR.

has this happened to anyone else? whats the reasoning behind it? still in shock....
 
i did 245 for 18 reps. could have pushed out 2 more, but i didnt have a spot. damn, i can't wait for another round of legs next week, i usually do 245 for at MOST 12 reps.
 
Your legs were warmed up, but not your lower back though.

lesson? Do more warmup sets, 2 sets at each weight, but half the number of reps you nromally do. Don't go up in weight until the warmup weight feels light.

There are guys out there who seem to gain strength from each set. It takes several sets, 4-5, for them to get warmed up and handle their top poundages. I've met some like this. As far as explaining why this occurs, who knows? Perhaps it has something to do with their neural efficency. It certainly isn't me, one warm up set and I'm at my peak. I always lose strength with each set.

I do shrugs in the power rack....focker...lol

I stretch and do a little bit of plyo's when I warm up for heavy squats.

My typical warm up for a heavy squat day is:

Overhead Squats 2 x 10
Hands free front squat 1 x 10
hang cleans 1 x 10
drop squats 2 x10

then I do my first set of squats

i do these really light and strive to loosen up my hips and get my heart rate up. I also try to get my mind-muscle firing really fast...it makes a big difference imo
