I've read that sqauts are thee best leg exercise for mass, but also tend to make your glutes larger. Are there any variations or other exercises that minimize glute involvment?

I personally hate hacks, but I will squat, and front squat all day long. Or at least until I feel sick. Squats are the way to go. Make sure you go deep, even past parallel. Do them super slow too. Get a real feel for the weight. My partner and I will do a 4 second squat routine. That means we squat down until the count of 4. That helps us learn to slow our squat, and get a better feel for the exercise.
 
Lunges definitely DO NOT minimize glute growth. Lunges are great for building up your glutes...ever notice how fuckin sore your glutes are after lunges? Peace

I would have to agree. I did lunges on Tues., and my glutes are still tender today.
 
I agree with heavywear.

Personally, I could use a little more glute mass, suffering from Caucasian Booty Syndrome as I do.
 
i have a rather large ass, but i love squatting. maybe i should do more direct quad and ham work to make the rest of my body proportionate to my humongous ass
 
my girl likes my shapely ass. so squats and lunges are definitely in the picture indefinitely.

Now if I can only get HER back in the squat rack......:D
