lat pulls and NS's 5x5

I dont compete, and I don't really diet, so I have somewhat of a large waist. 34" on a 210 lb frame. I am starting Needsize's 5x5 routine, and I keep seeing deadlifts as the core 5x5 workout. Any thoughts on using lat pull downs in the 5x5, and deads as a 2x8? I am hoping to give the illusion of more of a taper with this.

What do u think?

I would probably stick with the deadlifts as your main 5x5 movement. Hit up chins or pulldowns as your accessory 2x8 and you should be good to go. I just think that it is important to keep your 5x5 movement a compound one.

Yeah you're right backlash I guess my response insinuates that chins aren't a compound movement. I suppose I'm just advocating he stick with the "more compound" of the possible compound back movements. :)

I actually find that hitting Deadlifts every week gets tough on my lower back, specially when I add Squats into the equation. I think a case could be made for alternating your wokouts, thereby giving your lower back a rest. In my case I think I would prefer a row in its place, but you might want to do pull downs or chins instead...

I think using pulldowns for 5x5 is going to put your biceps and bicep tendons at risk for an injury

fair enough needsize. Maybe I will incorporate your ab work to see if that helps.

It helps more than you could imagine.
Been doing it for 4 weeks, I can already tell my core strength is up. Squats and DL weights are going up quicker now.
