i did mine on friday just for shits and giggles and am just curious as to whether anyone has had any sort of problems with their peircing?

OUCH! How did they tell you to keep it clean?

I'd think food would get all stuck up in that all the time. I brush my teeth after I eat.....I'd have to take a wire brush with me to make sure that I did not have food in that too!

oh and basically with any piercing the body can reject it and you may develop keloids but if your ears are pierced with no probs then body piercings are more than likely safe as can be for you... just keep it clean and such esepcially until it heals.

aftercare involves alot of rinsing my mouth with an antiseptic mouthwash (leaving it numb), lots of antibacterial soap and cream for the outside. no kissing, sharing joints, food, etc for the next 6 weeks.

I have two railroad spikes that go under my collarbone.

I polish them with silver polish and use neosporin sparingly.

it has a flat piece on the inside. the ball screws in on the front. i spoke with my dentist and he said i shouldnt have any trouble with my teeth.

although to be honest - it is of my opinion that everything is done with ball bearings these days.

flat piece of metal in the back - i get a new post in three weeks however.

and as i only plan on leaving the peircing in for a year or so, my dentist said i should be ok. if i do have any problems, i will just take it out. no worries.

No worries? Ha! I have my navel done...They told me I'd not have any problems either...Well...I did'nt..until my hubby got his bag hooked on it once...

Make sure ya keep it clean!!!!!I'll bet your dentist is not seeing it as a problem...he'll be glad to charge ya $800 bucks a shot for caps if you do ruin the lower teefers!

i work in government building right now, they dont mind the peircing. and when i do take it out, it will only leave a small hole.

as for the whistling, i dont know. i only had it done friday, so it wont be coming out anytime soon.

DO you get searched going through the metal detectors?

Piercing has always sort of gone over my head. But if you could play the saxaphone with your lips and the flute through the labret hole, that would be worth it.

Bodhi, i see no one else was able to answer your question. I have the same piercing as you. I have had it for about 6 years now. No problems with the teeth. I have not had a worn in the hole for over a year, but the hole is still open. Looks tiny and people dont even notice it but i can still easly put my ball in. Of all my piercings ( i have many) this one has been the easiest to take care of.

Just to warn you of the bad side of this piercing... (thought I should play devil's advocate) One of my really good friends got this done and had a "fish hook back" at first. This is where the ball that is showing, screws into a 2 inch piece of wire that is bent to one side that will run along the side of your gums. A lot of piercing places want you to have this first, and then switch to a flat back (these are all metal, not plastic or cardboard as listed above) When my friend got this, he started to grow an extra flap of skin on the inside of his lip. We thought this was just extra skin at first. We switched the "fish hook" back to a flat back in order to avoid this getting any worse. At this time the skin started to form over the back of his piercing. He went to the doctor and they said that his mouth was beginning to form an extra lip over the metal. The fish hook had also dug into his gums before and caused some damage there as well. He was forced to take this out. His lip healed a few weeks later and he go this done again by another piercer with a flat back, since this was done there have been no issues.

as my broly/best friend/partner in higher acts of stupidity does tattoos and piercing for his living, i have tried most of the popular piercings. the labret was one of my favorites.

i much perfer the round, flat disc to the fish hook, for comfort and long term usage.

properly positioned, a labret should not cause any teeth enamel wear or gum recession. the problem is, too many peeps out there are piercing; most of them don't know what the hell they are doing! ALWAY check out your piercer!!!

mine was a small colored ball, blended in with my goatee, you had to look carefully to see it in place.
