Hi Guys, first of all I know this isnt steroid related, however I always read the info posted here and it seems as if all the experienced guys hang out in this section. Im sure if someone feels it appropriate to move it then they will :p

Ok so heres my situation, please bare with me as its a bit of a long story. About 2-3 months ago I was at my local supermarket and they were doing free blood pressure checks, so I decided to have mine checked out of curiosity as I had never had it checked before. The lady said it was a bit high and I should have it checked next time im at the doctors. So im there about a week later (for something completely unrelated) and I ask her to check it for me, she also said it was a bit high and decided to send me for blood tests. So I had those done the next day. About a week later I see my doctor and she starts saying something about one of my liver enzymes being a bit high compared to the average but it might just be normal for me, but to be on the safe side she says she will send me for another blood test to see if its around the same level and not going up. So I have those done and see my doctor again, she says its gone up even more, to 78 I think she said and it should be only about 50. If it goes over 100 it starts to cause liver damage aparently. She asked me if im taking any steroids and I said no as im not and have never taken any. She then asked if I take any OTC supplements. I told her what i was taking which is CNP PRO MASS and CNP PRO RECOVER. She said I should stop those immediately and do another blood test in 4 weeks time to see if my liver enzyme starts to go down. This was two days ago. Sorry but I do not know exactly which enzyme it was, possibly ALT? However im not sure.

So heres my questions,

1. Has anyone heard of this before? Can anyone offer any information on this situation?

2. What is the best thing to eat/drink after training? as I cant consume anything that isnt natural in a doctors eyes, so that means no protein powders etc. Can I just have some milk and oats and some eggs?

By the way my stats are,

Age: Will be 21 on the 18th of august
Hight: 6ft 1
Weight: 219lbs
BF: between 10%-12%
Training: 5 years, 3 years hardcore
Never used steroids

Thanks for reading my essay if you did lol. any help much appreciated. Thanks.

white rice and lean chicken is a good post w/o meal. to much sups is bad on the liver. does your protein have a lot of crap in it?

just do what your doctor says.

Aren't these just protein powders and meal replacements/ PW drinks?

Thanks for replying, and yes they are just basically that. Pro mass is a weight gainer, and pro recover is specifically designed for after training. There quite basic ingredients. I dont think they would be causing the issue but my doctor said I have to leave off them for 4 weeks so I guess I have to do it. Have you any idea if these could be the cause? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you tell you doctor you work out? Working out can raise levels. AST comes from muscles.

Certain supplements can raise levels.

What markers your doctor is referencing?

AST, ALT or ?

Maybe you should not do any heavy lifting for 3-4 days prior to your next test.

Here is what my (HMO) doctor tests:

GLUCOSE, FASTING
LIPID PANEL
POTASSIUM, SERUM
CREATININE, SERUM, WITH GLOMERULAR FILTRATION RATE
ALT (ALANINE AMINOTRANSFERASE), SERUM
AST (ASPARTATE AMINOTRANSFERASE), SERUM
TSH (THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE)
TESTOSTERONE, TOTAL
LH (LUTEINIZING HORMONE)
FSH (FOLLICLE STIMULATING HORMONE)
CBC (COMPLETE BLOOD COUNT) WITHOUT DIFFERENTIAL
WHITE BLOOD CELL DIFFERENTIAL, AUTOMATED
CREATININE, SERUM

Ah ok. Ill start having that then in stead. Thanks for the advice. The ingridients are as follows.

Pro Mass
maltodextrin, cold-processed whey protein concentrate, micellar undenatured casein, medium-chain triglycerides, flavouring (vanilla), stabiliser (xanthan gum), colour (beta carotene), sweetener (sucralose).

Pro recover
glucose, sucrose, hydrolysed whey, whey protein isolate, cocoa powder, chocolate flavour, vitamin C, xanthan gum, vitamin E.

Do any of those jump out at any body as bein particulaly bad? Thanks guys.

Thanks for the reply. Im sorry but im not sure which one she said. I was a bit baffled by everything she was saying. Yeah she knows I work out as I told her I was gutted about having to stop my supplements as Im in the best shape I have ever been in.

Ive been taking these supps for a few years now so I thought if it was this that was causing it then surely my enzymes would be sky high by now?

Mate you arnt taking shit that should have any negative effect on liver or enzymes...

Those sups are bascically protein powders based on milk proteins. Would your doc tell you to not drink milk? Hell no. Sounds like she doesnt know or understand what is in those sups and has told you to stop as a knee-jerk precaution.

On the plus side it means you can keep taking your food supplements (thats what they are) with no worries, but it does mean you have high BP and you never even took shit so you probably wanna get that looked at.

My 2 cents anyway

Would be worth showing your doctor the ingredients list as she wouldn't have been sure what was in them. Hopefully she will give it the all clear and keep looking elsewhere mate.

Thanks for the reply and yer I think she has just basically said to stop them because she doesnt know what they are. Shes told me we have to rule these out before we look at anything else but I think if I showed her what the ingridients were then we could rule it out without me having to mess my diet up for four weeks.

I think ill still stay off them for the four weeks though so that ive done like shes asked because I dont want to piss her off lol, as I still need her help to sort out why I have high BP when ive never taken anything that should affect it.

Thanks again for your help.

Do you think she would be annoyed if I made another appointment to show her the ingridients? She might just tell me to still leave off them. Im a bit confused as what to do. I wish my doctor was into bodybuilding lol. Shes quite a traditional doctor, so anything that you buy off the internet that makes you bigger freaks her out even though its just a basic supplement.

either work with her or find another doc. i wouldnt go against her. food is better anyway. food is always better than shakes and all of the stuff you need naturally occurs in real food. the source is pure not processed by some lab and turned into a powder. look up all of the ingredients that you feel you need from those shakes and see what food it comes from and build a meal with it.

Ye man I reckon your right. Just the shakes are convinient lol. I'll have to get in the kitchen and get some cooking going on.

Thanks for the help.

Ok this is the wrong advise! Go against what your dr. told you? R u serious?
No, how about you don't take the supps for a short period of time and keep everything else the same. Then when retested that sups issue will be laid to rest! Don't go against what your dr. tells you! I am not saying they have all the answers but we are sure not dr's here! And why don't you just bring the supps into the dr's office next visit!

Another thing guys. Would you advise him to take some liver supps. Like Liver cure or some Liver cleansing products.
Maybe wait and discuss that with your doctor also. I have taken them products post cycle before. Seem to work for me however how does one really know. Just puzzles me why your levels would be so elevated and you never done any cycles or anything? Do you take lots of tylenol or nsaids? Like Vicodan or loritab?

I dont think I take those, however im not sure as to what they lol so I couldnt say for definate? there not listed in any of my supps so I assume im not takig any. I'll suggest something like the liver cleansing products to her when I go in, but for now I think ill just drops the supps and then get re tested and see where it goes from there. Also no I have never taken anything apart from basic protein powders, tried creatine once but it just seemed to make me spotty so i got rid of that lol. thanks for the reply.
