Knee injury(?), but don't know how...??

JOKER47

I'm always a little stiff when I get up in the morning, but some fluids, something to eat and some light stretching always takes care of that.

This morning, I got up and felt a little "extra" stiffness behind my knee, kinda where my hamstring attaches to the back of my knee. I didn't think much of it until I walked downstairs and my knee buckled. There was a shooting pain in the inside tendon(?)
behind my knee. It's been there ever since.

It's somewhat painful to walk, and more so when I walk down stairs. I stretched it a bit which helped a little, so I went ahead with my workout. (ME Lower.) I cut it short, though when it started really acting up. Yesterday was DE upper, so I don't believe I could have hurt it then.

I have a neoprene wrap on it, and it doesn't seem to be any better, but also not any worse.

Anyone have any ideas? It didn't happen in the gym, and ATF squats didn't bother it. Sumo deads did, though. My day off in the gym is tomorrow, so it will get some rest. Any ideas what it is,
and how best to to treat it?

FYI, I did hit a PR of 315x1 for ATF squats, so the day was not a total loss.:) But I skipped event training.:(

Thanks,
Joker

get some joint support supps and see if that helps. tb

It's not my joint, though. It's the tendon that runs down behind my knee. (There's 2 of them, one on either side of the back of your knee.) Feels kind of like it's pinched or something. Sort of like if I stretched it right, it would "pop" loose? Does that make any sense?

Edited to add: I should have mentiojned that I do take glucosamine and chondrotin(sp?) regularly.:)

Thanks,

Welcome to gymtimeland my friend. :D

I'd be real careful of the tendons back there. Were you doing deads or legs the day before?

If you've got a day off tomorrow, I'd go easy on it as much as possible and see how it feels on Thursday. If there's no improvement, you might want to get it looked at.

Yeah, us oldies need to stick together.:D I wish I could remember at what age getting out of bed became an event all in itself....

No, the day before was DE Upper. (Speed OHP, incline bench, lat and tri work.)

I have tomorrow off of lifting, and no "lower" work until Friday. I will be keeping an eye on it until then. Thanks for the advice.:)

i see..then a break would help...LOL. tb

That may be what has to happen if it doesn't feel much better by Friday. :( Like my age-challenged friend mentioned, this is not an area I want to mess with, or take lightly.

Sounds like one of the Hammie tendons.

Well I know myself, every moring I always warmup my legs before I go downstairs. As you get older walking downstairs cold ain't such a good idea :)

You probably just pulled it, I'm sure its going to get better tomorrow or after tomorrow

Yes, I believe it's one of those tendons.

I have a hard time believing that I pulled or strained something walking down some stairs, but I suppose that it is entirely possible.:(

Thing was, I was "feeling" the tendon already before I got near the stairs. As though it was already hurt. Not that the stairs caused it. That make sense?

yeah, but the stairs probbaly put it over the edge at a guess.

I get weird freak injuries like that sometimes.
Like I jarred my neck muscle 2 days ago without any reason.

Just a quarter squat static hold for 10 secs does the trick for me, and then I'm ready to take the stairs :)

Thanks for the tip, bud.:) Much appreciated.

Well, some good news. The tendon itself is not bothering me today, but the entire left hammie is sore. But sore like "sore-muscle" sore. Which, I can deal with.:)

So now this week just gets better....

Today, I am doing DE Lower, and decide to add in a couple of "static" events as my ham is feeling much better. I had planned heavy zercher holds and farmers holds. No biggeee, right? Oh hell no.....

Just as I was starting my farmers holds, I went to lift the farmers, and the plates slipped off the implement. (I wasn't using the "correct" plates. My farmers are made for standard plates, and they were outside, so I decided to just go ahead and use oly plates. Bad move.)

2 45lbs plates slip off the left-hand side and smash my big toe and middle toe on my left foot. It hurt so bad I thought I ws gonna puke. Not broken, but I will lose the nail on the big toe, and possibly the middle toe.:(

Needless to say, 6 vicodin, 2 Long Islands and 5 beers later, my toe STILL hurts.

Next week has GOT to better than this one.......

Fixes one injury...causes another. The man is a strength athlete and doesn't hurt himself flipping a HUGE tire or doing farmers walks or putting up big numbers on the squat...he has a big injury from dropping plates on his toes:)

Glad you are doing better man.

Like I just said...decrease weight, increase volume, decrease rest time for a bit.

Isn't that the truth. Drives me nuts.:D

Will do man. Thanks.:)

Gettin' an X-Ray done today. Doctor wants to be sure nothing is broken. Good news is though, she prescribed Percoset for the pain.:D Of course, this is AFTER she drilled 3 holes in the top of my toe-nail to let it drain. Now, it's been bleeding for 3 days. Great.

Workouts will be seated for a while until at last the nail falls off and it doesn't hurt so much just walking.:(

That sucks man but you'll be all the better for it when it's over. Just try to hold yourself together long enough to do you next comp.

Thanks Scotsman.:)

No comps planned in the near future, just lots of preparation.:) The next couple weeks I'll be getting very creative trying to make progress with my training with a bum wheel.
