I bought $500 worth of gift cards at KMart to different stores, such as Barnes & Noble, Chilis, KMart, etc, etc. Well, I started getting emails and calls from my friends and family that the cards are EMPTY. DARN IT!!! They say they want a receipt to prove that I bought the cards and activated them. Holy heck, I'm going to scream if they mess me out of $500. When I bought the cards, I watched the girl slide the card on all of them. The receipt read "active" below each card, so I thought they were all fine. I CHECKED AND DOUBLE CHECKED. Now, I have no idea where that receipt would be and I may have thrown it away.

did you pay with debit or credit card or checks???
if you cant find your receipt, they can probably run your debit card or check and get your receipt for you

at least target does
 
I used my debit card, thank goodness. I'm on hold on the phone right now with KMart.

Kmart doesn't hire the sharpest tools in the drawer, just saying. We used to call them Polyester vest monkeys.
 
Well, I'm pretty upset. I just got off the phone and they said that they would "look into it" and "have someone call me back." They seemed like they didn't believe me.

Those are probably a third-party vendors' cards. If the server is down that does processing of cards it'll allow purchases up to a preset limit, like $50 a card. So it may show active but never process the transaction. Wal-Mart had a similar problem this Holiday season in that many cards were never activated by the vendor.
 
Did your card get hit with the charges? I would imagine every gift card has some type of tracking on who bought it and where it's spent and on what. Did you call the store where you bought it at, or corp headquarters?

I bought all of the cards at KMart. Yes, I have called. They seemed less than concerned for my plight.

I would ask to speak with someone in management. It's better to bypass the others generally.

What is even worse she was pwned by some monkey at K-Mart.

My bet is the cashier took the money by activating other cards for herself and handed unactivated cards over. It was in the paper on how they do that to people. Maybe people at K-Mart are smarter than we all think they are.

Sorry to here about your plight. However on a different note. Maybe I'm a little slow but I just found out that my sister-in-law has the same name as you. She was married last year and she sent a Christmas e-card to my wife and her name Heatherrae was on the card. I asked my wife who the hell is she? She says it's my sister. duh.
 
Serves you right for trying to buy off Stilleto.
 
I would head to that K-Mart and talk to the management to see if it happened to others. I bet the clerk was running a scam. We had an article here in the paper where a clerk was stealing the activated cards and giving unactivated cards to unsuspecting customers.
 
Dang. I hope not. I'm going to have to fly into witch mode if I go in there today and they don't fix the problem.
 
I saw the same story around here, basically as Vet said - the vendor got overloaded and cards were not activiated. Continue to pursue it, it will be fine.
 
Heather, I will never purchase gift cards that are out in the open and not behind a counter. I think it was 20/20 or similiar show that showed how people get screwed by this. Basically some people go around and right down the account number or whatever on these cards out in the open and then they keep calling the number to see if it has been activated by someone or not and then they hurry up and use them. Now you mentioned food places so that may not be the case, but anything like American Express or stores with online shopping they can easily go in and put the account number in and buy stuff and wipe it out before the owner even stands a change.

Darn. I never heard of that. How embarassing for me. Two of the cards were sent to the managing partners of our main office in Cleveland. :worried:

They filed for bankruptcy and Ed Lampart bought their assets. He later merged the new Kmart into Sears and created Sears Holding.

Suck up! should ahve just sent them a 5x7 of the avi pic, copies are about 25 cents and the returns would have been higher I bet.

yeah, I have company of the BF kind for the next couple of days and dont want him to see my witch mode yet...lol. After he leaves back to Dallas, I will go face to face...lol.

I got lucky last night and bought an ass load of groceries with most on special and/or taken from the dented can cart

I got about 350 worth of groceries for a little over $200
only had to stop her 3 times and get her to rering something correctly

is your kmart having problems reading the cards also???? i tried to buy a few last minute ones and for some odd reason they wouldn't let you purchase them with a check... cash only. you weren't even allowed to do so with a debit card. how fucking retarded is that??? I seen a few people trying to use the kmart ones a few days after christmas and they weren't reading. I have no idea if the others were working though like chili's and all those places.

why do all kmarts have dim shitty lighting??? i hate going there cause everyone looks like a zombie. kinda freaky

No kidding! I hate KMart. I only go there b/c it is so very, very close to me. There isn't a Target within 25 miles, or I would be an exclusive Target gal...lol.

wow that must be part of their styling appeal. both of our kmarts look old and beat up!!! like they just up and bought a abandoned building and put the kmart sign on it and opened the doors

I have a super walmart just down the street too, but I was trying to give the business to KMart since I'm not really fond of the politics of WalMart owners.
 
i could see if kmart was a mom and pop operation but your business isn't going to improve their shitty lighting problems

Well, the update is that I walked back into KMart and started talking VERY LOUDLY about how I got ripped off buying gift cards. Lo and behold, they magically were able to find my transaction this time, print me a new receipt and give me replacement cards...lol. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Call me squeaky.
