Kitty or no kitty?

Fast Twitch Fiber

That is the question. I'm thinking about getting a cat from the shelter. However, I have some reservations. I rent and cannot have a critter scratching everything. I thought I could get it declawed but then I read some about declawing and decided I don't want to put a kitty through that torture. Maybe I could get those claw caps. I also don't want an animal waking me up at night. The cat will have to spend the night in the guest bedroom.

I'm somewhat allergic to them but if things got bad and I had to get rid of it, I'm sure my mum would take it.

Should I get a young kitten or an older model? Kittens are more humorous but I feel sorry for the older cats since they have little chance of adoption.

Help me decide.

If you're even "somewhat" allergic, I would have to advise you to not get a cat.

That's what I was thinking, but I grew up with a house cat after I found out about my allergy and wasn't bothered too much. But that was also in a larger home so the allergens would have been less concentrated.

If you don't want to be awakened at night, don't get a kitten. They go through a phase where they pretty much go psycho as soon as you try to go to sleep. Adult cats know the ropes, and can even be allowed bedroom priveleges without worry of being disturbed.

Kittens are a lot more fun though.
