Kimbo vs Ray Mercer MMA debut this Sat 23rd

kimbo can't even *get* into the ufc - let alone destroy their champion.

think kimbo would turn down an opp to make big cash if he could? he wouldn't survive 2 matches in the ufc

we've been down this road 2 years ago.

I can say that having watched most every major televised boxing match and most of the ufc's and many pride's that Kimbo has a couple things going for him.

1. He's fuckin big and strong.
2. He hit's fuckin hard and most of his fight ending punches aren't even him really throwing his full power into them, but you can tell they hurt by the faces of the guys hit by him.
3. He's a tough guy and willing to learn. That right there speaks alot about him.
4. Bas Rutten says he's one of the best fighters he's ever trained. That says enough.

5. Last, but not least, most of the strikers in the ufc aren't that impressive punching wise IMHO. There are some good kickers, but I'd bet money that in a pure striking match that kimbo would knock chuck liddel, quinton rampage or any of those guys out within 1-2 rounds. Against guys like Fedor or Mirko he would get owned, but in a straight punching match I still think he would knock them out cold. He has excellent side to side movement.

So, you combine very powerful punching, with huge size, toughness and the will to learn you got someone that can really be something.

Who knows. Maybe he'll get fucked up. Maybe he'll pwn, but to discredit the guy is retarded imo.

I agree with a lot of your points except for number 5. The reason Kimbo's head/hand/body movement is so good in stand up is because all his fights were back yard boxing matches. In MMA you can't fight standup the same way you do in boxing or you'll get knocked out or taken down. If I remember right Mercer already has one fight under his belt. He went down from a kick to the head. It's not easy transitioning from only defending the hands to defending fists, elbows, feet, knees, takedowns etc.

His basic boxing stance is fine for kicks. People say you can't do this or that, but that's a load of bunk.

The predominant kicks are basic kicks to the head and shin. That's about all you ever see thrown.

In his stance he keeps his hands up so it's only a matter of raising your elbow up and putting your palm by your ear. It's a fast block and not hard to do.

As for the shin kicks, well thai fighters stand basically full frontal of each other and can block them.

So I don't see any thing wrong with his stance for fighting.

There are basically 2 types of striker's in the ufc. Natural sluggers that learn the basics of boxing to further improve their skills and guys that train in boxing because they don't throw that great naturally.

Neither amounts to much against even an amateur boxer which is why I'm basically saying that all you really see is rudimentary boxing skills in most fights.

As far as pure punching goes, I believe kimbo punches better than any ufc fighter I've seen or pride for that matter. Whether it's a straight right, left hook or right uppercut he hits really hard. He shows real ability to effectively dodge his opponents strikes and get in close weaving which is what made Mike Tyson so effective in his young career so he could put his powerful short arms to work. Not that I am comparing Kimbo's ability to early or even now Mike.

I've doen some training with a silver medalist in boxing at the olympics . He fought at 124lbs I think. Had over 100 amateur fights and like 25 pro. After having seen him even just shadow box outta shape and the fact that not even the 250lbs MMA guys around would strictly box him has shown me some real skills and that's just not seen in MMA.

Not that I'm putting down MMA for that because you have to have a very diverse skill set to effectively compete in MMA.

My point being that as I see it, Kimbo can out strike anyone as far as punching goes that I have seen in the ufc and now he is working on his ground game and takedowns/defense.

That makes him WAY more dangerous now than before.

Ray Mercer has mad wrestling skills, but their's no way in hell he's gonna stand and strike with Kimbo. He's gonna try to take him down and beat him or submit him.

That's the only way he's gonna take out Kimbo cuz he's gettin kncoked out if Kimbo lands a decent shot and if he doesn't go down his face will be hamburger.

I saw that Sean Gannon fight. He basically was getting his face kicked in, but
Kimbo gassed out. There wasn't a mark on him. I don't care how much heart you have, if you gas it's over.

That's my opinion.

I'm not sure what I think about you saying Kimbo is going to outbox Mercer. I do think Kimbo will win. KO is definitely possible.

i think kimbo is gonna devistate soooo pumped about this fight right now.. i got a boner actually

like i said. he's been beat. so what if he's been 'training'. so? why should someone pay to see him? what belts has he won? what's his professional resume? what has he achieved besides turning on dorky skinny guys on the net who love him for being the stereotypical tough black guy?

u haven't said 'what's unique about him'

Not to mention that Gannon went to the UFC and got his ass kicked in less than one round by Brandon Lee Hinkle.

I for one am interested to see how Kimbo will do.

when kimbo builds up an impressive record in the ufc - please let me know.

until then he's just another guy and his fans who 'claim' he can whoop ass and get to the top.

talk is cheap. let's see him 'worthy' enough first to take on a chuck lidell or ortiz. those guys don't have to prove shit.

Interesting but how do you know that ? I doubt his boxing skills are really that great. Last time I checked he was out doing some backyard boxing not fighting for the WBC title. The guy has some great punching power. No doubt but it takes more than that. I wouldnt give him a minute against a guy like Fedor.

I meant as purely punching against all the guys I have mentioned.

Obviously, if kicks and grappling etc are allowed then Fedor or Mirko or most of the guys I listed would whoop his ass, at least right now.

I'm just saying that he has really good movement, especially for being as big as he is. I mean he's a big fuckin guy. Bas Rutten is no tiny guy and Kimbo standing next to him is alot bigger.

I think that is Kimbo really has heart and really wants to become a serious MMA fighter that he has extremely high potential.

Oh ya, and Bas thinks so too lol.

kimbo hasn't found that many fights.........

however, he is a genetic freak. dude was a badass football player down in South miami while in high school.......some of those miami thugs are serious athletes and just damn good.

i.e. 20% of the NFL (chad johnson, santana moss, willis macgahee, etc)
