Take my advice and pay the $75 to have it professionally installed. Plus if you want, you can get powerlocks bought and installed for $40-$50 per door. Just get the two front doors done.

I would imagine vehicles being stolen easier with these things connected. Car running in your driveway/ curbside... No one inside...

Having said that, I'd love to get one for my vehicles.

yeah im sure there is a risk of that...i wonder how insurance would work knowing it was stolen while running? doors are still locked tho.......bit if i dont get the remote...then ill be going out 1/2 asleep to start it for her im sure haha

Most car stereo shops install them. You go to a dealer you get assraped.

You don't leave the key in the car, so it can't really be stolen. If someone enters the car and presses the brake pedal - which you have to do to engage the transmission, the car cuts off if the key is not inserted.

This is what I got for my PT cruiser, so you have an idea of the cost :

Remote starter $300 - this was with the basic key interface, I didn't care for a lot of electronic doohickeys and visuals.
Viper Alarm - $150 - discounted because it was purchased with the remote starter.
Jensen in dash DVD player - $600.

They installed everything the same day.

if you don't have power locks, you really don't need them. It is just an option.

That is pretty cheap. I think I will look in to that for my wife's car. Thanks.

you actually convinced someone to marry you? :verygood:

$300 for just the remote starter? was that installed too? ive been looking online today and ive found a few for less than $50...1 is by "bulldog security" idunno about their rep tho. but many many below $100 for sure...i didnt know about pushing the brake/engine cutoff...i like. although i would LOVE for someone to steal that damn car i HATE it.....i refuse to drive it, i feel soo squished

They're a waste of gas. Your car will warm up faster if you let it run for a minute and then get in and DRIVE. The longest I let the Death Pod warm up is a few minutes and only if I'm clearing ice or snow.

However, if you're one of those idiots that gets in a car with a cold engine and expects it to drive like it's fully warmed up, well, you're an idiot.

I have seen 5-8mpg fluctuations from warming cars up too long.

The reason mine was $300 was because in addition to the remote starter, I had to purchase an installation package to make it useable with the chrysler grey series key. It is often a piece package.

Trust me, consult a dealer shop first to get all the info and then pursue it online if you want to later.

i doubt the waste of gas is soo much that its not wortht the device. u let car warm up for 10mins...if any ice is on window that get loose and comes right off plus it warms fluids, lines, etc so u have a less chance of something going wrong from a start/go with cold engine. you wouldnt even burn 11 gallon id guess

When you have it installed, make sure you set the runtime for 10 min. There are several option, before it automatically shuts off.
If you live in a cold weather area, it's great when there's been freezing rain. Let it run & the ice, cracks up real easy.
You have to remember to leave the wipers off when you shut the vehicle down, or you'll burn out the wiper motor when it's trying to push against the snow. & leave the heater settings at defrost, or you'll come out to warm feet & a still frozen window.

Beings I work in the car Buisness and I see this stuff all the time. Check to make sure once you do this it does not VOID your Warranty on the car.

I have seen many cars come through our shop and the warranty companys will not cover the car any longer because of that reasson. So check first.

I'll say it again - I have seen 5-8mpg fluctuations when letting a car warm up for too long in the winter. On a car that's getting over 30mpg, it's not too bad.

However, on a car/truck/SUV that's only getting 18mpg, drop that down to 13mpg.

As far as fluids, the oil will still be fluid enough to keep the engine lubricated, trans fluid/gear oil will be fine, and antifreeze, well, it's called anti-freeze for a reason.

The car will warm up FASTER if you get it in and drive. I have let cars sit for 10 minutes when the temperatures have been in the teens and they are not fully warmed up. I have started cars up, let them run for a minute or so, then started driving and in less than 2 miles (and under 5 minutes) the engine is fully warmed up.

Since we're discussing winter driving, let me put a friendly reminder out there for everyone. In the winter, take the time to clear the snow off of your car, even off of the roof. Oh, it's a bitch to clear the snow off of the roof of your SUV? Shut the fuck up, climb the fuck up onto something, and clear that fucking white shit off or go buy a smaller car. Have you ever seen some dumb fuck driving around and the snow slides off their roof and covers their rear window, making it useless (which means they aren't using their rearview mirror)? I have. Have you ever seen some stupid asshole have to hit the brakes suddenly and the 4" of snow on their roof comes down onto their windshield? I have, and I've been in front of people when it's happened, and they can't see a fucking thing while I'm looking in my rearview wondering if they are going to rear-end me or not.

I saw one asshole driving around with an 8x12" area cleared off his windsheild and the entire rest of the car was covered in snow and ice. The stupid son of a bitch could barely god damn see, let alone see anyone coming off of other stop signs at intersections.

The first stupid fucker I see driving around this winter with a car covered in snow or ice is going to get my long handled ice scraper shoved up their ass and they will get a free small intestine scraping.

i HATE stupid drivers too people crack me up with the things they come up with just to be lazy.

Covergurl...yeah she friggin drives everywhere!

I've seen this one guy, every year for the past 8 yrs. All he clears off is the patch right in front of the driver & the front quarter of the front door windows. Why can't he take another 20 seconds & do the whole friggin window? I can even tell when he buys a new car, because he's the on;y one I've seen that does that. In fact, I stopped at Timmy's one day & he was there too. I finished scraping his windows as he was coming out, & he gave me a look like I just offered him some tanning lotion. I figured, even if he didn't appreciate my gesture, he might like the extra visibility & clean it properly next time. Nope. Assicle!

Smart man. This is exactly what you're supposed to do. Let the car warm up for a minute or two then start driving. Obviously you don't go pedal to the metal, but start slowly driving and the car will warm up faster.

Just like breaking in a virgin asshole, you go slowly at first until its fully stretched to accomidate your girth and length. That ensures you will get repeat performances. Or you can just slam it in and tear it apart, but only do that if you're planning on slitting the recipient's throat immediately afterwards.

The only downside to operating the Death Pod when it's not fully warmed up is that the idle is high and it messes with me when engaging the clutch from a dead stop and while shifting.

the issue is not about mpg. no one wants to jump in a car and shiver for the first 10 miles. it is about comfort, which life is all about anyway. I got mine because here in south florida when i am at the beach i can start the car from the beach with the air going full blast and by the time i walk from the beach, across the street to the parking lot, all the heat inside the car is gone. it is not like a sauna when i get in. same thing with leaving the mall. why ruin nice clothes because of the sweat from a hot car.
