Keto Diet & Brain Activity

TEXWS6

New member
I have seen how effective the KETO DIET is, and was just wondering if it will decrease brain activity since carbs help the brain function more properly. I am an engineering student and need all the help i can get in making my grades, don't flame is this is a stupid question, just always wondered...

everyone says that they can think better running on ketones. i dunno, when iw as on it, i remember noticing i didnt sleep as much, but i wasn't tired or anythign from not sleeping as much. as for the thinking process, i don't remember how i felt.

thanks for the reply...

thanks man, i guess i am a little concernced about my GPA dropping if i were to undertake this diet...any more opionions?

perhaps individualistic, but...

I've heard both sides of the story. Some people say they have no energy and can't think clearly on a keto diet. Others say they have increased energy all day and can actually focus better on a keto diet. The only way is to find out for yourself. Personally, I'm 7 weeks into a CKD, and find that there is no impairment whatsoever in brain function while no-carbing. I actually fit in with the group who reports increased overall energy on less sleep. Now, mind you, I'm actually using a CKD to increase mass, not for dieting quite yet. I'm at about 4000-4500 calories a day, eating 70% fat, 30% protein sunday-thursday.

Well, I have to take the side of the opposition on this one due to my past performance as a thinker while in ketosis. It is true that in the first 1-2 weeks the mind will be a LITTLE sluggish; however, after the initial few weeks your body adapts to the Ketonic state and you feel bette overall. Yet, all this time your brain needs at least 50g glucose to functions properly, while so, the glucose is being replaced by the Amino Acid Glutamine. In fact, after around 4 weeks of straight ketosis, it has been shown that the human brain can adapt to the NO carb diet and use the effeciency of evolution to burn Ketones as brain fuel.

so you recommend taking L-glutamine while on a keto diet to help brain function? if so, how much and how often?? thanks Mr. X

My friend, I think, although vague, I was trying to point out that the body naturally does the glutamine conversion from the meat you eat (or are supposed to eat). I would say taking glutamine is a possibility, BUT (that's a big BUT) it CAN kick you out of Ketosis; thus, I don't recommend it.

I think your thinking process should not be impaired, just add some ECA (ephedrine or norephedrine based) to your diet to keep the sluggish feeling off.

Mr. X how do you feel about refeeds? how often, how much? Or do you think you should stay in KEtosis the whole time?

Read my CKD manual.

Refeeds only after 2-4 weeks of initial SKD ...every 6th day/1day.
