Karma... Why?

I've thought about this ever since I joined, but thought it may come off across as misunderstood. I would ask George, however I"m sure he is busy doing what ever George does. I"m assuming networking and furthering an inquiry of how to expand. Dude did create this place, so he has my appreciation.

That said, I have time to play, so I'm gonna run with this question. Why Karma?

It is a very novel idea to create this symbolic commodity that you can accumulate, which symbolizes status, prestige, and it also has a utility value... you can bet it and get more, or you can give it to another member and thus promote a connection and sense of good will among the members. Bomb, gift plat membership, Unbomb, and store your K messages, I think is useful as well. I that at the time and place he came up with this idea was brilliant. It serves the forum well.

However, why call it Karma?

I have my own questions, and thoughts, which lead to more questions.
Anyone know?

Tell ya what I'll put a Karma bounty on the best answer that appeases my curiousity.

Is George of Vedic, Buddhist, Jainist worldview?
Is the 'Architecht', and its a name well served, being Ironical?

I do bet he eats alot of sashimi... though.
Velvett spoke of him well.

I have never doubted V.

Send it to me, I'll do it for you.

Oh yeah... along with that pic of me news anchor, pharmaceutical rep.

Yeah.

Nice buy, btw.

Can't afford that stuff right now, CRV need transmission repairs and research assistant, TA gig pays less than White Castle.

Yeah, the Rav 4 has 270 horses, but I could not afford one at 32 grand.

That Scent, and a more open approach may attract a totally different animal than you are used to dating.
Ya know?

How do I put a Karma Prize?

Thanx Norweigan Buddy.
I have to say that I"m like getting mixed messages from your Avi.
I mean dude is so adorable, I can feel serotonin elevations in accord with postynaptic oxytocin release. I honestly think dude should be involved in Palestenian Israel Meetings..
His influence would be in text books for the next 30 years.

I am action packed with karma....

Yeah... but you got the skills and strength to handle it. Yeah, I've seen some weird things, and been in some traffic, but not quite to the level you have, I mean your karma is chat roomesque with so many conversations going on at once.

I can't even do chat, cause I feel overwhelmed, so yeah...

Hold up I love the convo... dont' get me wrong, but focus and tell me why George Picked the Word/Definition/Idea...

Should I up the anty?

Can I?

Okay good answers to my curiousity... I'm behind on shit I have to read and really digest, evalusate... and I'm not picking it up. I will return 2mara and pick which answer is the best one, hell I didn't even have time to read them... but will do 2mara.
Thanx walli and chris.

Let's see.
The purpose of karma of this board is to award karma or give green karma to a post that was brilliant, original, insightful, funny or worth the read. Often times, you give green karma as well to a post that you agree with or that touches you or reaches you on a certain level. Sometimes, you even give karma to a certain post because you like the poster, you want to show support to the poster, or simply because you want to convey a quick msg to the poster.
There is another form of karma - red karma. You give red karma to someone when you disagree with them, when their post upsets you, you think it's a horrible thing to say, or you simply think that person is abnoxious and you want to get him in the "xero" karma or "negative" karma zone. Some time ago, there used to be karma wars, whereby members would start giving members on the opposite side negative karma, bombing other members, etc...
Other uses of karma is for you to purchase bombs and have fun blacking out posts, declaring wars (so to speak) on other members, declaring to the entire board that you simply despise a certain member by continuouis blacking of his posts, redding that member and causing him to be in the "negative"
Karma, simply put, is status. Generally, it is coherent to how much you are liked, how popular you are (popular members get a lot of karma and they give a lot of karma) and how much you interact with the site (karma bookie, karma casino, etc...)
Karmic power is another interesting thing that comes into play. It is how much green or red karma you can give a member. How much karmic power you have depends on how long you've been on EF, how much karma you have, and how many posts you have. Every 500 posts = 1 karmic power. Every certain amount of karma = 1 karmic power. Every certain time spent on EF = karmic power. Every purchase of plat, lifetime plat and other memberships = 1 karmic power. You get the point.
Why it's called karma? Good question. Perhaps because what goes around comes around. Give green karma if you want it back, red if you want red karma back. Treat others with respect, and you'll get that back, etc...bomb people with karma and you'll expect to be bombed back. Or maybe it's just a name. Who knows? A mysterious thing this karma world we live in.

KARMA is tha gift u give urself.
It is the owning of urself and tha consequences u bring to URESLF....tha good and tha bad. KARMA is tha reactions to ur actions.
..............................and yeah, bishes, I just made that up. Didn't need to call Ariel or nuthin. That's just how I roll.

traz summed it up pretty damn well.

but i can't speak for George Ariel, and i'm pretty sure he is the only one that can answer your question.

There are two main aspects in the world. Negative and positive. Good and bad. Light and darkness. I believe karma represents do good onto

others and good shall be given among you. Thats one of the main reasons i only believe in doing good to others. i wouldnt want others doing

bad onto me. its part of my philosophy on life.

Karma is a central part of the Hindu concept of reincarnation (rebirth after death). According to Hinduism (the main religion of India), after death a person's soul, or spiritual essence, transmigrates (moves) into a new body and is reborn. When the soul transmigrates, it may enter a body that is in a higher or lower state of existence than was lived by the previous person. For example, the soul could become a king, an animal, or even an insect. Where the soul may go next is determined by karma—the thoughts, words, and actions of the person who previously inhabited the soul. If the person's karma was good, the soul will be reborn into a higher state of existence. Conversely, if the karma has been bad, the soul will inhabit a lower state.

hes probably busy. i know he mentioned he was moving a lot of stuff around on his dads house and doing a lot of other work.
i bet he responds in 23 minutes.

Morning All, Yeah Iggy, I am slammed with TA duties, and helping my father out. However, I have time in the early day to play.
I love the answers, Traz, I dig your answer as well, but I want George's motivation not the function. You rawk the house, like informing me bout some shit I really did not realize utility wise, but I want the 'Architecht's overall vision, or why he used the word 'Karma' and not say... VirtueFluence, a termed that just popped in my head mixing Virtual and Afflluenc, or Masons, a term used in concotcion with building and the Founding Fathers 'Secret Philosophical Organization' that established a government based on universal and more 'spiritual' laws. My point is George has a beautiful mind, and I wanna play.

I'll hit the gym, and between articles I have to evaluate, and chores, I will read each post.
Just come up with a motivation or narrative that tells me why George chose, or what he was thinking.
Hell if its that good I'll up this bad boy to 200,000.
Iggy you are on point.
I have not read these, just glanced over scrolling.

Basic Buddhism: The Theory of Karma

The Theory of Karma, by Ven. Mahasi Sayadaw

Basically explains that karma is a law of nature, it is the cause of inequality between things as a result of actions in the past, present and future (why some members on EF have a lot of karma and others are in the negative). It also explains how someone can be a mental prodigy and another a complete idiot (we have both, on any chat forum, not just EF) Buddism (karma is its fundemental law btw) explains that inequality and luck come not only from hereditary nor are they accidental, they are as a result of karma, i.e. different status on EF - COTB members are given a lot of karma, lifetime plats are given karma, almost every purchae on EF is given karma, because karma on EF = status, similar to what the Buddists believe. Karma governs the differences between human beings as well.

Now here is why I think the word "karma" was used on EF. Because karma spreads, good or bad, it spreads. It is an easy, almost involuntary way of making contact, establishing rapport, making friends, making enemies, generating drama, waging wars, action, fun, and always...what goes around comes around.

EF is a social experiment. George is the architect, and in his brilliant mind, EF is a fitness board, and a chat forum, but also a social experiment. It is a networking site based on the transfer of karma among it's members in the form of good will, bad will, and alternatively neutral msgs. The breakdown of the concept brings about the ideas of green karma vs. red karma. Now let's break down the colors of the karma.

Positive karma = green. Why green? because green represents abundance, growth, renewal, life...
Negative karma = red. Why red? because red represents passion, warefare, violence. It is a strong color and usually when you give someone red karma, you very strongly disagree with their posts, "passionately" disagree and you are engaging in karmic warefare, bombings etc...

I can go on ranting about the symbolism of using the word "karma" on a chat forum all day...

Holy shit.... Great Answer..
I think Traz has just pulled ahead.
Wow
Phenomenal.... I'm really impressed .

damn traz. now i gotta try and top that later today.

I dug his explanation.

Iggs, I'm in between things, but one thing, and I only read Traz's awesome post.

He's got the genereal direction that I was thinking as well.

Gambling Addictions... Accumulation..... Cause and Effect....

Just brainstorming to help ya out bro.

If you go with what you know, something will pop up.

Lata brah.

I have been here 4 years. In the begining Karma accumulation was fun. You gave and received for the quality of your postings and replies. You gambled a bit. I watched the people who had a lot and they were great characters. To receive from them was a salute. I actually got K from Hammy and some heavy hitters and that was fun!

Then it changed in an effort to level the playing field. My totals haven't changed much because I lost interest in the race. I give now to say Thank You or Good Post/Reply. It isn't any big fun now.

How come he wasn't part of the unban movement?

ya know. . .i HATED that mf'er at first. . .but he grew on me. . .big time. . .no :rainbow:. . .i miss him. . .no :rainbow:. . .but, even if he was un-bant, i doubt he could make it a week before he got bant again. . .funny thing is, when i thought he was a complete asshole, he never even got so much as censored. . .after he grew on me, he couldn't stay out of the damn doghouse. . .my ma always said i didn't choose my friends very wisely. . .

Traz was on point, and the reason was I posted this question, was Karma is not a good thing... even good Karma is nice, but it keeps you on the 'wheel' of suffering, graspin, running from negative circumstances, and being conditioned to wanat, lust after more shit, and just hate it when you don't have.

Karma or Klesa behavior and emotionality keep people from being human beings... I mean like it keeps you from Joy, keeps your mind running.
I'm not against wanting, or lusting for that matter... hell, pwned by both, but I wanted to know if George was being Ironical, by calling the currency, Karma... or just it was a term in fashion at the time.

I do dig that Traz explained that it was a social experiment at the time, this place was created.

Great posts... Thanx all.

Instead of Karma I wish George would've called it Samsara...
That would've been ideal as well.
Though cause of the explanations, and my own thoughts...
Karma fits pretty well.
