just saw someone get stuck

AL, yeah, I squat 325 for 5, not great, but really not bad for an ex-rugger with two ripped up knees. I don't any lower than 3 reps, but that's just me and my knees. My point was (that I found funny) was that his clearly couldn't handle the weight for one rep, let alone 3. He is also underdeveloped. Why fuck with a potentially dangerous exercise like the squizzot when you can't even handle the weight without someone monkeying it up for you? I guess it's one way to grow with forced reps with good form, but at a HUGE risk of injury. It almost looked as though his form on the way down was a function of the weight heading south, you know? He had no power under that bar..

I totally see your point. I think a few missed it. Obviously the spotter was applying a good amount of help to the kids chest to get the weight up.

Reminds me of Space Cowboys with the bench scene.

I see 3 things usually.

1. Most people don't do barbell squats. Or deadlifts for that matter.

2. I see guys load up 315 here and there and proceed to bang out 10 reps like they are king kong. Only problem is they stop about 4-5" above parallel(bottom of thigh). I consider parallel to be top crease of thigh at parallel which is basically almost a full squat and significantly lower than bottom of hamstring used as a parallel guage.

3. The guys that load up 225-315 and then proceed to do quarter squats.

One time I was in the gym and this guy in the power rack next to me was squatting 315 for reps and doing slightly better than half squats with a belt on and I noticed him looking at the weight I was using a few times. I finally got annoyed and put 315 on the bar and dropped it until my ass crack pretty much hit the ground and let it set there for about 2 seconds before I drove it up belt free.

There's squatting and then there's squatting.

I consider my technique excellent in most major lifts as I trained with national level powerlifters for awhile and even they went to legit parallel.

315 might not seem like a lot, and it isn't compared to consistent squatters with years of training, but I respect anyone that can drop that weight all the way down raw and bring it back up.

I hear you and agree on the respect of that move. My ass and thighs are pretty big from squats and I always know that when I get deep, my ass has me...lol. It's that deep spot where you feel your legs let go and your ass takes the driver's seat. With my little giggle from yesterday though, even if I couldn't lift shit, that would still be funny to me. The kid totally disregarded the laws of physics and has no clue how his body responds to resistence training. I mean, who have you seen get killed on a 3 rep set like that never having the weight at any point in time add even MORE weight? It's insanity....and I think it was at the risk of overcoming the embarassing stick in front of his boys. The high price of reputation these days....maybe I was once like him.............but I doubt it..lol

yeah...I hear you AL and I'd agree......IF there was some old guy bearhugging and wrenching these guys up along with their "good form". You missed my point at "hello"

i hear you JW on the guy giving him bear hugs and him continuing to add weight to the bar... i've got stuck a few times on singles with a LITTLE more than i could manage and have been given a bear hug on those ocassions :o that's just part of the game... obviously the kid tried a little too hard but you have to give him credit for going ATF with good form unlike some of the bigger jerkoffs who do a 4" pelvic thrust on the same weight.

BTW, it's not always possible to size up guys and say "this guy can't lift that". check this out:

that's a 190kg (~420lb) clean and jerk at a body weight of 60 kgs (~130lbs)! suleymanoglu looks like there's no way he could squat/deadlift that weight, yet he clean and jerked it!
