Just saw a 700 pound bench press

.....
The other day i saw a dwarf making a like 500 pounds bench,
no kidding, it was in german television, i don't know if anyone saw him....he had little harms and it seemed the bar was elevated like 4 inches....

Dont know how much Dee Dee weighes, he is about 6'1 and wide as a house. Think he was also the former Mr. Alabama. If any one knows any thing else about him please commit. It was the most amazing thing that I have ever seen. He was not in the compition, he was just there showing off. Meet took place in Paragould Arkansas.

Its D.D. Nichols. He is a legitimate 600 plus bencher. I think he competes in the 275's and 308's. I have seen pics in PLUSA and meet results over 600 lbs before. He is wide as a house.

George Halbert of Columbus Ohio benched 733 pounds at a bodweight of 215 pounds in 2001. That is the greatest bench press ever of weight to body mass.

The world record for the bench press is 780 pounds by Anthony Clark of the U.S.A.

damn I would have loved to be there...

But shit if he asked me to spot I would be like "what with a fork lift????" The fucking shit people do is amazing, I can barely imagine being under 500lbs let alone 700..... I wonder how soon someone is gonna get 800lbs...

There was a lot of controversey with Clark's 800 lb attempt. According to the record books 780 is the best although there are people who believe Clark's 800 should have counted. www.powermagonline.com has the records listed I think.

That probably would have been Markus Shick. He is one of the best lightweight benchers in the world. I saw him at the Arnold Classic bench competition; he had to have someone hand him the bar b/c the supports on the rack were too high for his arms to reach the bar.

I thought the controversy over his lift was that he slid it up the rack.

Yeah i think your right Arioch. Thanks for refreshing my memory.

I had the plusa video years ago that had the entire lifts for this meet. I clearly recall the 2 whites 1 red though.

You would think Clark would have gotten a legit 800 by now.
He got it up nicely. Just got out of the groove and hit the uprights.

Thats lift was what? in 97? Damn that was 5 years ago.

Whats happened to Clark? Anyone? Hannibel? Spatterson?

I think I saw a video of the 800 lift. I am about as lifter freindly as it gets, and I hate for anyone to get red lights (myself included) but I could not imagine this lift passing, if it is the one I saw.

Pause was questionable at best, it appeared the bar went up, then back down a little, went back into the racks, and then, it looked like the spotter grabbed the bar before lockout even after all that.

I think that at least some of the reasons I listed above are the reason for AC not getting credit for the 800.

As for where AC has been, I don't know. He has a website, maybe it says what he has been up to. I have been curious for some time why AC does not seem to get much respect lately. When I was a kid, all I can remember hearing about is Ted Arcidi, Ken Lain, and Anthony Clark. Just don't hear much about them anymore. Maybe because they are not actively competing these days, who knows?

No doubt. Doing a two inch rack lockout with that much is insane. And AC is definately stronger than I will ever be. I did not mean my comment as a criticism. I just don't think it was a passable lift.

Well, after seeing his assisted "squat" via Mark Challiet, with Leistner as head judge, any of my comments about his lifting are criticism, pure and simple. I would never try and take credit for a shit lift like that. It hurts every powerlifter by association. And yes, his bench and squat are better than mine.

He has tried to compete several times prior to the mountaineer cup. Has trouble getting a squat in with getting reds for depth.

Intenceman,

Go to a few powerlifting meets, you will see some big squats. And if you are squatting 600 you need to go to the meet to compete.

Biggest squat I have ever seen was just a couple weeks ago, saw a masters competitor squat 865, and had trouble at 900. It is a moving experience to see things like that. Closest I will come to getting religion.

AC's squat is on one of the past issues of Powerlifter Video Magazine.

I was a spotter who wound up catching a missed 965. That really hurt, the idiot walked out from under the bar after it buried him, then wanted to come back and try again. He was told to find his own spotters.

Several people on the PL board are 700+ squatters, and a couple are at the 800 mark.
