just got my hex/trap bar in the mail

anyone ever use one of these mothafuckers.. gonna do shrugs and deads with it today..

Yeah, I have one.

On the downside: It's a hassle to load; if you put really big plates on it you're probably going to want to come up with a platform system to stand on because you won't be able to go ATF; the gnurling (at least on mine) is harsh as hell; hopeless if you like to DL sumo style.

Upside: Takes up less space than an oly bar; doesn't mangle your shins; great for shrugs and farmer's carries; the positioning of your hands makes the grip feel stronger grip because your arms are straight down; the lift is more natural and balanced because the weight is centered through your body which makes this really good for someone who has any sort of back problems.

my traps are the weakest area of my body i've tried pretty much everything.. super heavy deads super heavy shrugs..

so this is basically my last resort..

i got a good idea for a platform or we'll just load it with 25's.. could prob. hold 8 on each side..

how long do you hold your deads for?

two things that fucking kill my traps:
heavy deadlifts like you say, but holding it for a 2-3 count at the top of each rep,

on weeks you dont deadlift, work your grip, just take a wide bar or a regular bar, load a plate or 2 on each side, and hold it for 15-30 second intervals. i did this recently and my traps and neck hurt so much from my shoulders to the point on the back of my head that i had a nonstop headache and everything sucked

god that bar is amazing for doing explosive deads.. fucken murdered my traps back and quads..

ya you get way better grip.. i could prob. hit 405 x 10 with hex bar reg shit maybe 405 x 2
