I just listened to a talk by "noted expert panel" on PBS.
They were discussing how morals change thru times.
One mentioned why Arabs make their women cover their face.
They used to live on trade routes where slave traders would capture and sell beautiful women.
So making a woman cover her beauty and stay inside was a protection.
One mentioned the origin of June Weddings.
Back in the Middle ages, in the days of Black Plagues and such, people didn't have running hot water and indoors plumbing. So they didn't bathe!
And in Europe the winter snows don't melt and the water warm up enough for river/creek swim until late May or early June.
So everyone took the Annual Bath in June.
Hence June was the most popular month for weddings.
She said this is also the reason Brides carried a bouquet of flowers!
To cover the smell.
