Jump Rope

Typical boxing rounds. 3-min rounds with 1-minute of rest in between. Totally HIIT.

My sessions are about 20-25 minutes and will perform 2-sessions a week. This week I'm increasing to three sessions. Also, my "rest" is more "active rest" with shadow boxing.

Actually thinking about starting this soon... I plan on standing on rubber mats when I do this though...jumping like that is hard on my knees...

I'm not so good at jump roping so I really love the feeling of keep a fast rythmic speed, and right while I'm enjoying that I get welted in the shin.

Same here. I'm so crappy at it that it becomes interval training by default. Stop, start, stop, start...

Same as well, but damn once you get going it sure is great for the heart.

Get a weighted rope with a nice leather cord. None of those foo-foo ones for children playing in the street.

I love jump rope!! This is one of the best forms of exercise out there! Excellent for promoting blood flow throughout the entire circulatory system.

I just use my Everlast leather rope with ball bearing handles. Perfect.

Just remember to keep your shoulders relaxed, turn the rope via your wrist. "Stay light".

Since I'm *ahem* a klutz, I had to begin with 15-seconds on/15-second rest. I built up to 3-minute rounds.

I jump everyday for my warm-up. I do that and some dynamic flexibility stuff. I hate the treadmills. I have gotten pretty good too. I can cross over cross over backwards and just a bunch of other fun kicks and twists. Gets me going and there is almost alway something different to do as aposed to a treadmill.

Its a brilliant form of cardio. My cardio staple, in fact.

If you're after specific routines, take a look at some of John Davies' Renegade stuff, or an article by Mike Mahler at T-Mag called "High Octane Cardio".

I always thought this was a bit like jumping or jogging on the spot while rotating your wrists, I didn’t see the point, but looking at these responses it might be worth a try…

I recently borrowed one...was too long and got a bit frustrating. I'd really like to try this again with a jump rope that is suitable for me.

Well...

This is def. one of my fav. types of cardio. I rely heavily on the cardiovascular system for both endurance and explosiveness when i have an upcomming fight and this typically helps with endurance!!!! I have many different ways to jump rope. Sometimes ill go to my college's wrestling room and begin roping through progressions. Ill start a warm-up jump rope session for 3 mins. Then i progress to the next part of the mat and rope for 5 mins. Then its off to the back section for 7 Mins. and finally move to the far section for 10 mins. which usually kills me after that. Great exercise I.M.O Also sometimes when i hit the road or the track to run ill bring a jump rope along after jogging 3-4 miles ill rope till i can't rope anymore!!! Then sometimes between bag work and drills ill jump rope some more!!! Love it...
